Through out my life, I've never experienced true silence. I have very good hearing. Those ultrasonic pest deterrent systems drive me nuts. The only time I experienced true silence was in a hot-Air balloon. No humming, buzzing, white noise or ringing, just... Quiet. It was one of the best experiences of my life.
It's like a constant, faint ringing. It's kind of funny lol. Turn on some music or the t.v. dont let it get to you, its just your body doing it's many jobs i suppose. =)
Yes, it occurs in varying degrees and has many causes. Like suggested above it probably is tinnitus. I also experience ringing in my ears, and I know that exposure to loud noise caused mine. You can look it up on wikipedia. There should be a decent article on it there.
