Is it normal my daughter hasn't left her bedroom in a week?

I know she's alive because she makes noise and I bring her food. She has social anxiety and a sensory problem. She uses the bathroom very quickly and runs back into her room. She's 13, what's going on??? She's homeschooled because she can't go to school. IIN? Please help.

    "I know she's alive"

    Well that's good.

Maybe you should try actually being a parent and looking after her. Get her professional help and whatnot. Seems logical and obvious to me.

I hope you're a troll, because if you aren't, I'll get seriously pissed.
You are asking for help here, on this internet platform?! Instead of getting professional help and advice?! It's your f...ng child, for crying out loud...

Your daughter is agoraphobic. Seek professional help, not casual advice online. If you hear scuttling noises from her room, well, I guess she's turned into a Kafka-esque bug.

Have you tried asking her what's wrong? Sounds like she's either been bullied or touched inappropriately. Even though she doesn't go to school, if she spends a lot of time on the internet she could have been cyber-bullied. But I could be wrong. You won't know unless you talk to her. She should probably get counseling if it's serious. Good luck.

Stop bringing her food. She could starve herself for a while, but self-preservation will win eventually and she'll come out to raid the fridge.

I don't know how serious is this condition of hers, but it could be very easily exploited. I'm very anti- social, and if i didn't have to pay my bills and gas i doubt i'd ever go anywhere.

why the hell would you take her out of school? what are you thinking? you basically took all her potential friends away from her? isolation is not going to help her.

it's summer. why don't you take her on vacation and help her feel normal?

ps: if she continues like this, it's going to be 1000x worse in 3 years. help her now.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. I also have an intense social anxiety, and sometimes the best thing to do is just to isolate. I know from first-hand experience that things can get a million times worse if you are out in public when it will literally make you sick to your stomach. Unless you have it, you would never understand.

I do have social anxiety. except i want to have a normal balanced life, so I fight it; it hurts though. I don't care who you are, this girl is fucking 13. She'll never have another chance to be a child and do all the wild shit kids do when they are thirteen. isolation? FUCK THAT. it makes SAD worse! Don't compare her to yourself; she still has a chance. you've obviously given up on yourself. no offence bro, I don't know you. I don't settle for "i just CAN'T do it", or "it's just not possible for me".

Oh yeah I hate it when I get sick to my stomach. I honestly wish I didn't have S.A.D. LOL it spells out sad. Anyway I wouldn't mind it if I didn't get sick from it.

She was bullied in school. Find the perpetrators.

    She needs therapy now.
If you can't afford it, look for programs online that may help with the cost.
You may even try your local mental hospital. This isn't normal for anyone, but it's worse that she's so young and already like this.
It didn't help that you enabled this behavior. Not that should make her socialize now- that would traumatize her.

I would say it's because of skyrim, but that game has been out for awhile.

The Dawnguard DLC came out this week, it's certainly reignited my interest in the game.

If she has anxiety or depression then that explains it...
When you're depressed all you want to do is lay around...

I definitely suggest therapy. You can't force her out of the house. If she's anything like me (I also have social anxiety), I will get so ill that I throw up if I'm out in public on a bad day. But therapy, and possibly medications, could help if you catch it while she's young. Just get her help ASAP, as it's much harder to get better the older you get (take it from me on that!)

What's even less normal is that you've taken her out of school so she has to avoid her phobias and issues.

Actually be a parent, look after her, talk to her and be supportive of her!

Have you looked into the - unlikely but possible - idea of her being on the autistic spectrum?
