Is it normal my breathing gets thrown off when i wear headphones?

When I wear headphones to listen to my music and other people are around, I get paranoid that I'm breathing heavy or strangely because I can't hear myself breathing. Every so often I have to take the headphones off to make sure I am breathing normally. Is it normal?

I think that's pretty normal. Once you remove one sense, you think more about what you're missing from that sense. Since you can't hear what's going on around you, you're curious as to what others are hearing..I'm trying to word it correctly but it's kind of hard lol

You probably just hear it better with headphones on.

No one - at least no one *mature* - will ever whine about someone else breathing too much.

Lol ... I've done this plenty of times... Sometimes I take them off to see if I'm breathing too hard where other people can notice.... The funny thing is as time goes on as in when you start getting older all these little semi paranoia's start to deminish... You no longer hv time nor the mental strength to focus on crap like this

ever since i was young when i think consciously about the fact that I'm breathing then it throws me off. I have to make a conscious effort to breath until I forget to think about it and it returns to an involuntary action

Kind of how it's hard to take a deep breath around people w/o it being too load/soft/inconsistent.

For me you just have to kind of say "This is how I breathe(simulate breathing)" and then just continue breathing that way, be aware of what "normal" feels like when you have headphones on.

Generally your breathing gets thrown off whenever you're conscious of it. Perhaps, when you put your headphones on, you're thinking "Man. Whenever I put headphones on, my breathing gets messed up." thus making you conscious of your breathing, and thus messing it up.

Just relax. Have you ever seen someone in headphones breathing all oddly and loudly and annoyingly? Probably not. Unless that person just normally does that.
