Is it normal my boyfriend keeps accusing me of being anorexic?

Me and my boyfriend are both nineteen year old college sophomores and have been together since our second year in high school. When we were 16-17 I began having body image issues. I called myself fat often and began this huge but successful weight loss journey. I have lost 40 pounds since then. (I was quite chubby.)

I am now 5"2 and weigh 99 pounds. I lost all my weight through healthy methods and have never starved myself. However, my boyfriend wants to eat out A LOT (which isn't healthy) and every time I'm not hungry, he accuses me of being anorexic. He tells me I am hurting myself but I feel fine. I feel happier and healthier than I ever have as a fatty.

Is it normal? And how can I convince him I'm not anorexic without eating out at some unhealthy restaurant?

o.o So at your heaviest you were about 140... I would hardly consider that fat! I was 145 at my heaviest and it wasn't that bad at all. 120 now or something like that and I feel like I wouldn't want to be much smaller than this, I like to ski and bike, I'd feel fragile if I lost much more. >.>

I don't know what you look like but it's good you're being healthy, just know that I doubt there was anything wrong with you before. ;)

But I'm short, so it is way chubbier on me than you. I'm assuming you are probably taller than 5"2.

Oh. Maybe you have a wider frame. I have really tiny shoulders. Honestly, most of my life I have been small and I can't answer why. Wow. I was only big for 2 years. Well, big for me, I should say. I'm so used to being in the 95-105 weight frame, that to me it's a lot but to others it's not. Sorry if my post seems kind of ridiculous. :(

Your body mass index (bmi) is 18.1 - you are underweight. If you gain 2 pounds your BMI will be 18.5 That's the low end of the normal range.

Oh my. I'm 5'1 and 110lbs. I feel that you are a tad skinny, since looking in the mirror i'm not fat... so if I lost 10 lbs, I can kind of invision how slim I would be. I guess if you did it through the right means then good for you.

You're in college, thus get access to free mental health. Go talk to a shrink, lay out all your BFs concerns, and get his/her opinion. Once the shrink says you're normal you can tell your BF to shut up with no guilt or concern.

If he can't accept you as you are, break up wth him. Congrats on getting to a weight where you feel good about yourself.

  • Females require much less food than males because they only have a fraction of the muscle mass.

If your boyfriend wants to go out to eat, why not go with him, but instead have something light from the menu or even just a beverage. It's wrong for him to call you anorexic, but maybe he's annoyed you aren't being open to spending time with him eating at restaurants, which is a normal social thing to do with a boyfriend.

I have extreme SAD, and I don't like for people to see me eating or hear me speak if I don't know them well. I did once and it was a bad experience. The crowd made my heart thump and eating? I barely had any and the little I did have, I had to cover my mouth because it just feels so uncomfortable and humiliating.

      • What is "SAD"?

I'm sorry you have so much trouble eating in public. Have you told your boyfriend about your issues? What does he think about it? Why is he accusing you of being anorexic if he knows the cause is something entirely different?

Social Anxiety Disorder. I have not yet told him how the eating makes me feel. All he knows is I don't talk in public and when we met, I didn't speak to him. I keep the eating part to myself because I don't want to be too abnormal for him to tolerate.

He's actually skinny but the unhealthy kind of skinny. The kind where you just are and you don't even try.

Eating healthy is a good thing. Your boyfriend should stop accusing you if you lost the weight in a healthy manner. You can not convince him he sounds like he is being a dick.
