Is it normal my 20 year old boyfriend still gets physical punishment

My boyfriend still gets hit by his dad when he gets into trouble at 20 years of age. He lives at college but goes to his dads during breaks and weekends. He got tangled up in drugs a bit which is the main cause for him getting disciplined, but I still think he's too old for it.

He gets belted either across the face or upper back. When I ask him why he still takes that from his dad he just says he doesn't want to fuel the fire and start a fist fight. Even though he could easily beat his dad if he had to, he refuses to fight back or protect himself. I told him it makes him look kinda like a bitch, but it was his choice.

Do guys still get physical discipline at this age? Is it normal for guys to fight their dads?

    He is an adult he has every right to have his father arrested for assault

    He shouldn't have been doing drugs. No matter what you're age is if your parents say they're gonna whoop. Then leave it as that. Just coz you've passed 18 it doesn't give you a freedom pass. His dad had every right

    If his parents still support him financially in any way, it is going to be difficult for him to have any say or fight back verbally or physically. He could, but it would not be a smart choice because he might lose financial support.

    However, if he is not being supported by parents, he could get the guy for assault, but it's his dad... so that might be too far. If he's not receiving much financial support, I think the best option would be to just tell his dad that it's not okay and that he's going to avoid spending time with the family until the abuse stops.

    Sadly, the best advice is to probably just not get caught for drugs and stuff. Family situations like these are usually not easy to "fix".

    To answer your question though, it's not normal for parents to do that to their kids, really at any age anymore, and it's also not normal for guys to fight their dads. Usually because the dad provides some sort of financial support, and the son has some respect for their parents.

    several things

    1 most parents I know don't use physical discipline at that age.

    2 strikes across the face? It's weird to hit him there.

    3 Just because he's younger and stronger doesn't mean he'd win fighting his dad, with age comes experience and old men don't hesitate to fight dirty.

    4 No it doesn't make him a bitch, he's honoring his dad and accepting that even though he's a legal adult his dad still probably knows more than him.
