Is it normal it creeps me out when people are super friendly at work?

Is it normal it scares me when people are super friendly at work? Not that I hate people that are nice but its weird since even people in school are never that nice. When I got my first job everyone was super nice even my supervisor. It felt more like dealing with siblings and parents apposed to dealing with coworkers and bosses. Is it normal to be scared by this?

    You are lucky. Maybe you need a job where everyone treats each other horribly. Maybe you would not complain then.

      That is not the point. Generally people are not this nice to each other. People usually give each other space. Its not like everyone is super close. I never said people have to act horrible. Especially with the person who is in charge of you...

    No its not normal. You're supposed to be super friendly at work. so friendly to the point that your face hurts from your fake smile. If your face doesn't hurt at the end of the day, then you weren't working hard enough.

    I hear ya. Kind of like the first 10 minutes of a horror film - something is wrong but you don't know what it is.

    I have learned to show quiet acceptance of overly friendly people by exaggerating my non-verbal gestures of acceptance, and then getting back to work right away.

    I've been so nice to all people around.., so maybe they see that you were good that's why they were trying to get close to you and even closer.. you must be happy with that since there were few people who have been nice to others..., but.., don't trust too much..

    i have found this out by being super nice, complimenting people and congratulating them makes them feel extremely uncomfortable and i have no idea why. It's kind of sad that it seems to be normal.
