Is it normal? is this common?

My family raised me to be open and accepting. I don't judge people based off anything. Colour, sexuality, beliefs, etc.

I don't think I'm racist. I honestly see no reason to be. To me everyone is their own unique person and it'd be wrong to judge all white people based off the actions of one white person.
I have an honest question. I'm not trying to be rude, ignorant, or anything of that matter. I just honestly want to know, I'm curious about this.

Why is it ok for black people to say the n word to each other?
'N**** please' 'n**** that's crazy' etc. but God forbid an Asian person or white person use that forsaken word. Or even Hispanic, Arabic, just any other culture/race.
I have asked the people in my area before, and they say its because it brings back 'the hurt' their ancestors felt. This is my opinion: if that word brings back the hurt, then why do you use it?
Again, I'm not TRYING to be rude, racist, ignorant, or what have you. I am genuinely curious about the reasoning behind this.

Well, I'm black, and I gotta say that, to me, the N-word is the N-word. It has the same history and meaning no matter whose mouth it comes out of. I am aware that a lot of African Americans use it in a term of slang that is not meant to be offensive, but I think if a black person can use it in that form of slang, than people of other races should be allowed to too, and if one finds it offensive that a person of another race is using it as slang, then they shouldn't be using it either. Like I said, the N-word, is the N-word no matter whose mouth it's coming out of. I find people who don't seem to comeprehend that rather ignorant. To me, it is only offensive when a person uses it offensively, but that's just me personally.

Anyways, that's my input on that.

Thank you! I've always thought it was just a word! Any word can be offensive if you make it offensive. I could call you a booger and that could be offensive! I never thought words could only belong to a specific race or group.

most black people just say it because they heard someone else say it, some say it so that they can remember how and what it meant to black people in the past, some are just stupid, and others like myself don't care who says it because it no longer has power over us. and just so you know i live in Alabama

Well.. I guess maybe it's how it's seen in context? For example, the word gay. "Omg haha, you're so gay!" Like an insult. Or "He's gay, so what?" I like to think it's how people are using the word...
