I'm not going to lie- I'm a little concerned about is it normal Chat Room.

Ever since the Chat Room was introduced we've been on a Slippery Slope to becoming Facebook.

You’re thinking, “I don't understand. What's the big deal? Explain it for me please”

I’d be happy to explain it.

Yesterday they allowed for a Chat Room. Now today they’ve introduced Private Messaging. Tomorrow it’ll be a Friends List, then wall comments, and finally status updates and Duck Face Poses.

Does that sound like fun to you? Because it won’t.

If we don’t stop this now and Axe the Chat Room soon everything we love about this Site will be gone.

The introduction of Private Messaging just goes to proof the Slippery Slope we’re on to being Facebook.

But what do you think? Is this normal?

    Stop worrying. I don't think TheManagement intend for this site to compete with or become another Facebook.

    These new additions only serve to allow users to connect with other users here if they want to. The foundation of the site is still IIN questions and polls, that's what attracts people here, that's the USP of this site.

    For example, YouTube isn't Facebook, but that has personal messaging functions, the ability to add friends, to subscribe, to enter into a public conversation etc. but primarily the website is still used to watch or upload video content, that's why people visit that site.

    It's not a slippery slope to Facebook, it's an entirely different slope.

      It was once the USP of Nintendo to make playing cards but then they made a small venture into gaming and look where that Slippery Slope got them.

      Trust me, 3 months from now we'll have Wall Comments and you'll be laughing at the notion that the Slippery Slope will go any further.

    I kind of disagree. If the chat room or private messaging detracted from the answering of questions, it'd be a different matter. But I can't see anything in your post to suggest it doesn't detract. If you can come up with concrete examples, I'm sure people will listen.

    One key point is that Facebook was set up FOR social networking and to encourage it. This site was set up for other reasons and allows personal messaging, I think, as a way to ask questions you may not want to disclose publicly. Also to raise revenue, of course. It's all very well you keeping the site "pure", but are you going to pay the costs of running servers and employing staff?

      The company Nintendo was originally formed -for- making Hanafudu Cards and then they took a Slippery Slope to video games.

      IIN is on the same Slippery Slope and the Chat Room is just adding to the steepness of it.

      Hopefully the Higher-Ups are listening..for your sake.

    This website is structured differently with a different concept. Even with the additional parts of the site I think it can still retain its original purpose. I am an advocate of innovation and growth and this site deserves to grow. If you don't like the changes don't participate in them.

    Ok so IIN has a chatroom_. Yeah but guess what....Facebook doesnt -.-. JUST because the owners are adding new things doesnt mean its like facebook. Yeah facebook And IIN both have messiging so what? One little thing makes you think this site is turning out like facebook? On IIN the only way of communicating with people is chat. Facebook, on the other hand has a million chat thingy-mah-dews.Kay im done.

    Facebook is not as fun as this site. You put your real name on facebook for one thing, and you don't get to tell your secrets-otherwise they won't be secrets. But I'm personally not telling any of my secrets on here. But i love listening to everyone elses.

    No, it isn't. The ability to send private msgs is ok, but IIN is anonymous, for the most part. We're not friends or related in any way, and since I'm not a gold member i don't have no chat, not that i would ever use it anyway.

    I'm sorry that you feel like people building friendships and a caring community is a negative thing.

    No one is forcing you to be a part of those site features if they don't interest you, though you do seem to be focussing on them rather intensely.

        Seriously, your control issues are a little freaky...

        As has already been said, it doesn't detract from the actual focus and main function of the site. It's an addition. You don't like it, that's your right. Some of us do. Are we allowed our rights? Or is that exclusively your domain?

        I find it rather offensive you've chosen to use genocide as an example. Hardly comparable.

        Then again, I suspect this is all for attention, so I shouldn't really be surprised now, should I?

      If I had said that making not wearing a seat belt a Secondary Offense would start a slippery slope towards being a Primary Offense, I would have been correct.

      In some States it took years for this to happen.

      The fact that it took time for the Chat Room to bring about PMing proves nothing.

          It's not that hard to understand.

          IIN has been on a Slippery Slope since the introduction of the Chat Room.

          Now we have PMing. Next it'll be wall comments, then friends lists, and status updates.

          It's time to rethink the Chat Room before things get out of control.

    Ok, for one this site will never become like Facebook...

    Facebook is on a whole new level compared to this site I mean millions of people use it world wide and I'm guessing only a few thousand people use this one.

    Just because IIN has a Member chatroom doesn't mean it's becoming like Facebook.

    I think this whole post was a joke.

    But anyways, to answer it I'd have to say that Facebook has a lot of features that plenty of other sites find attractive. I mean why wouldn't sites like Youtube and then forum sites like IIN take advantage of private messages and what not, and the thumbing up and down of comments? And the chat room of course.

    As for IIN becoming like Facebook. I don't think that will ever happen. IIN and Facebook are two totally different things.

      It can be hard to keep Face around here with all the Regulars trolling my Threads but I'm not gonna lie- I'm very concerned about this.
