It's because your real-life body is under covers and they're impeding your movement.

Normally your body is paralysed when you sleep by the peribrachial area of the brain. It's largely the effect of one neurotransmitter (Acetylcholine). This has a pathway to the back of the brain stem where there are two little lumpy things called superior colliculi. These are the things that allow you to track your vision while you're awake. It's also the cause of REM (rapid eye movement) while you sleep because they're going on overdrive and your eyes are tracking constantly.

Sometimes the brain doesn't do what it's supposed to and you either remain paralysed for a short period while awake or, in your case, aren't fully paralysed while asleep. It's quite common and is the reason people often feel they're running through treacle in dreams.

Lol you are too smart. I always wondered why in my dreams I hit only as hard as a feather and run as fast as a slug. I am literally going to think of a fighting dream tonight but not get under the covers. Maybe I will think of a foot race or sport related and put it to the test. I am tired of losing in my dreams.

Heh! Careful there's nothing you can kick. I get more knocks and bruises in my sleep than I do when I'm awake. I think I'm a sleep ninja, and kind of a bad one. And not bad in the good way. :P

in dreams: every time i try to run away, i go in slow motion. almost every time i get into a fight i either can't swing hard whatsoever, or my strikes miss. i once tried to shank a guy in prison, but i couldn't press the blade hard enough to slit the beaner's throat. when i try to fire a gun at someone, i can't get my strength to pull back the trigger. so i'd say it's completely normal.

especially when it's someone that i want to beat up in real life as well, and in the dream in happens to be in front of the entire school and they all start laughing at me.

It's normal, that's how dreams work. This may not work for you, but it did for me. when you're awake, repeatedly ask yourself "am I awake" and just do that a few times a day. if it works, when you're sleeping, you'll ask yourself that when things start to feel weird, and you may start having control of your dreams (lucid dreaming). once you realize that it's a dream, you must keep that in mind, and remember that you are in control.

    That's just something I thought I'd share~ :)

Yes it is because you were not taught the ways of a dream warrior so you are rendered powerless

  • Another one was when I dreamed I was in school. I was told to go to the principles office. I walked out of the room, then looked back in the class through the door window, only to see nobody was there. I walked down the corridor, yet nobody seemed to be around.
I finally got to the path where the door to the principles office was, and just four steps away from his office, someone walked out the room. The person that walked out was me. For some reason I was so scared that I fell back, tried to crawl away backwards, yet could barely move. I was almost crying. The me that walked through the door just kept walking towards me slowly while laughing. Then I couldn't move. He walked up to me, leaned down, and just stared at me with a grin-smile. His hand went towards me, and then I woke up.

  • My dreams seem to usually have transformations of myself. I think the key part of my dreams is the confrontation of two sides of me.

I had this very weird, yet very entertaining dream once, and it was so amazing to dream.

I was in a dessert looking area, the sky was red. and the sun was a darker shade of red. A war was happening, people were killing eachother like savages, and bodies were everywhere. A woman dressed in complete white, with a shining glow slowly made her way through the area, her clothing were floating as if she was in water, and everything slowed down. Everything stopped. Nobody was killing eachother, and it was peaceful. She made her way towards me, and she stared at me with this look of pain, yet had a forgiving expression aswell. I smiled, put my right hand on her cheek, and I stroked my hand slowly down the left side of her face. While my hand was making its way down her face, she decayed in to a skeleton looking figure of sand, and then faded like a gust of sand in to the the area. The war and chaos started again. Out of nowhere an ancient/Egyptian tower grew out of the ground, it had a throne looking seat at the top, and stairs leading up to it.
I started walking, and it began to rain blood. I kept walking, walking through the war and chaos with nothing interrupting my path. I started walking up the stairway, and then got to the top of the tower, and then I sat on the thrown.
I looked down and gave a grin.

    It ended there.

    It's normal.

My dreams sometimes don't work out the way I want them to, like I can't use my "abilities" to their full potential...
I've had to fight people and sometimes I can't seem to fight back. I'll know I have the strength but I can't use it, which often results in countless injuries:/
