Is it normal ignorant people irritate me?

i get so irritated with people that have no sense of culture, other nationalities, foods ect.... I am half Hungarian and when i tell people my Dad's from Hungary, i sometimes get a joke " oh, so was he always hungry!" Its like... do they think thats the first time i've heard that?! Or they think they were so smart to come up with that?! Maybe i'm too touchy!
