Is it normal if your family ignores you?

it so happened that my boyfriends parents didnt want him to get into a relationship even though he is 20 now.
well so he hid it from them till now but 3 weeks ago his family got to know, so obviously they are angry at him but is it normal for them to completely ignore him to such an extent that they dont even acknowledge him if he is in the same room?
is it such a big sin to have feelings for someone apart from your family that your own parents wish to cut you out of their life?
also is it normal not to allow your son to date even at 20?

Well, it may be normal in asian cultures, but I don't think it's normal. I really hate how closed-minded some people can get, and I think said parents need to grow up.

Is he Asian by any chance? Cause some strict Hindu/Muslim/Sikh/bengali and Chinese parents wouldn't want their children to date.

Wow, my parents have done some crazy things in their time (like trying to turn my friends against me) but even they have never gone this far. That must make you feel horrible, that you've been the guilty little secret and that you are now the cause of animosity between them.

I'm not sure what their motives are, but it seems perfectly reasonable to me that he should be allowed to date whoever he wants. I don't know how you get to the bottom of a problem like this, but good luck.
