Is it normal if i have the sudden urge to laugh at sadness?

Every time I see people crying or just really sad or displaying a lot of emotion I will laugh about it for about an hour. Its awkward , I remember seeing marley and me in the movie theater and I couldn't control myself at the ending. I was litterally laughing my *** off.

You rejoice in other people's sadness? That's sad...

Normal, don't let people tell you how to feel. They are not you.

I laughed my ass off in the theater during Titanic. Especially when that dude hits the propeller doing "generic movie yell".

    Long story short, It happens.

I don't do this, but it is normal.
It's just how you react to the awkwaredness of sadness.
    It's almost like a shield.
Don't like/discomforted by something? Laugh away!

Humans are like walking mirrors. We reflect whatever the other person is going through. When someone's arm gets abruptly chopped off, we cringe cause it looks like our arm. When someone lost a loved one, we subconsciously pull up our experiences and imagine how we'd feel if mom got hit by a bus, and next thing you know, we are relating and crying as a result. The only way to override this is by either being a good actor or being born a sociopath (who was born without a mirror).

you're making bad karma.. someday you'll be under a serial killer's knife as a whole group of people laugh at your suffering.

  • If I was genuinely upset and you laughed at me, I am pretty sure we would not be friends. I would think you were a dick.

My guess is that lots of emotion makes you uncomfortable, and laughter in situations that make you nervous/"feel" is your way of diffusing the unwanted emotions like stress, sadness, or whatever.

Look up nervous laughter on Wikipedia, it's gold

  • For some reason I wouldn't ever laugh at a movie like Marley and me, but human suffering wouldn't bother me at all, and if it was done hokey enough I would find it funny.
