Is it normal if a 40 year old woman can't cook at all?

imagine a women who burns boiling water, cuts herself every time she uses a knife for anything other than eating and generally ruins everything she has ever made in the kitchen, EVEN when she follows a recipe exactly to the letter, down to the last grain of salt.

Does such a woman "deserve" independence or should she concede defeat and admit that life is pointless and she should live at home with her mother until her mother dies, at which point, she will die because she has not acquired the life skills to make it on her own.

My lady is 45. She can't cook anything. Even manages to ruin cheese on toast.

This does not mean she is unable to 'make it on her own'. She has, and does.

Why should it be expected a woman (or anyone) be able to cook in this day and age? I like cooking, and am very happy to do so as and when required.

She makes a very good cup of tea, by the way.

I wouldn't say it's normal that a 40 year old can't cook at all but they still deserve independence.

  • I don't really think it's normal for any adult, male or female, to not know how to cook. There are people like that though, so thank goodness for take-out, delivery, and frozen dinners.

Well, women don't need to know that if they are good in bed because it makes up for it

People dont need to cook. They need to eat, obviously, but they dont need to cook. You can have a healthy diet without cooking. Its fine to live on raw fruit, raw veggies, gluten-free bread and roasted nuts (from those bags of roasted nuts). In fact I would say that it's better to eat that way than to cook. An oven + stove take up precious space imo. and this is coming from a 19 year old girl who recently learned to cook.

I think it's normal. I mean just cause someone has two X chromosomes doesn't mean they need to cook. If you wanna cook take a class or pick up a book. Hell, I bet you could find instructional videos on YouTube if you wanted. One nice thing about not knowing how to is that people learn to not ask you to cook. I don't mind cooking and sometimes I kinda like it but I HATE the notion that I should cook because I'm female. I have an aunt who is a very conservative and traditional Pentacostal woman and she believes women ought have a natural urge and instinct to cook and clean. She actually told me it wasn't good that I lack that desire. Poppycock!

What...? Everyone "deserves" independence, of course. Independence isn't something that has to be earned or deserved... it's something you either have or you don't.

There are such things as microwaves. They aren't ideal but they do exist.

That doesn't sound very fun. Some people just aren't great at cooking. Maybe it's an anxiety thing? Because I get really anxious whenever I have to prepare a meal for anyone. I do just plain suck at it unfortunately.
