There is some very odd expressions that everyone uses. Some make sense with the context but some just seem odd. Like if someone is crazy you say they are "Acting bananas" or as said in Adventure times "You are being nanners". So whos idea was it to assign insanity to a banana?
I think it started something like this:
B2 - Are you thinking what I'm thinking, B1?
B1 - I think I am, B2!
B1&B2 - WE'RE BANANAS!!! Wee weee weeee, bleleleleinnnn!!!
And that, children, is how the mixup started.
Actually, I believe it was because monkeys get super excited when they see or are given bananas. So it migrated to going bananas for people.
There is etymology for this, but it's a lie. It requires Windrush happening about 40 years earlier than it did. I'd suggest an answer of "nobody knows".
Before farming banana's that grew in the wild had halucinagenic properties, men would go deep into the jungles to find the rarest and most potent banana's, they would be gone for weeks and when they returned they were insane and tribal elders would deem them to be 'Banana's and they would be beheaded.
Well...bananas are pretty crazy. Think about it. They are for many uses:
1) Can be made into a pocket pussy (don't ask me how I know that)
2) Can be used by girls to simulate what it's like sucking dick.
3) Banana bread
4) Banana bread
5) Banana dildo (put in freezer, take out of freezer and then go at it)
6) Oh, and did I mention banana bread?
