Is it normal i wonder how fangirl/boyism is not listed as a disorder?

Some fangirls/fanboys are not dangerous. They are just very very obsessed. Which being obsessed with a show is not always an issue. Yet some of these people are obsessed to a dangerous degree. They would go as far as to stalk a celebrity, they would go as far as verbally and physically attacking someone who says something against their particular fandom. These people are dangerous. Some are even under the disillusion that the character they love is real and will fight over them.

  • I have to agree. Have you seen this whole One Direction issue, where fangirls are sending death threats to one of the member's partners simply for being that member's partner? It is ridiculous.

These people really do have a screw loose, and it's just cringe worthy. All these fan girls screaming over these people, and I don't understand why. It can't be physical, because although some look good, they don;t act that way to ones even better looking.

It can't be the lyrics in their songs or stories, because if it is a story, it is fake, if it is lyrics, it is also fake, but even then if it is lyrics, so many unattractive people sing the same type.

Could it be their status? Their status alongside their looks?

I don't know, I just tend to find these types of people insanely shallow and should be analyzed.

    • Exactly! I mean they classified hyperactivity as a mental illness and that's more ridiculous than this. How is this not considered a disorder yet?

These people need some sense put into them. People need to realize this is not normal! and its not ok to hurt people over a obsessive love for a celebrity.

I also personally have been attacked and threatened by some of these people. Its fucking horrible.

I know right? I sometimes read weeaboo stories on Tumblr, some are scary and others are just ridiculous. And I agree with what ItDuz said about Directioners, sending death threats to the members' girlfriends, non fans, etc is ridiculous. Most of the fans are too young to date the members anyway so being jealous is pointless.

Look up celebrity worship syndrome. I think you will find it interesting.

    • So it already is one?

this isn't limited to just "fandoms". name a group, religion, political ideal, or even a race of people, and it is guaranteed that there are some who take their message to violent extremes.

yes, they're are fans that can turn violent in their dedication, but their fanboy/girlism isn't the cause, they were already unstable and they just happened to attach their distorted view onto the thing they like and go from there.

Because extreme cases probably fall under some existing disorder. I doubt you can be so crazy about a celeb and normal about other things.I know because I used to be pretty fangirlish (but I didn't go as far as attacking people) and I can relate it to some disorders I think I might have.

    • Like I said in some cases extreme fandom is not a danger. Think about it this way "If a fan is so obsessed they buy everything that person sells how is that hurting anyone? They have there obsession that brings them joy and they are helping the economy. However if we have someone so insane they kidnap them and cut off that persons testicles as a suvineer well thats fucking crazy. This person needs to be locked up and away from the rest of us normal people.

Nah it's just something they do to pass the time, and it's seen as cool these days. I don't think the ones sending death threats actually mean them, they just think that's how they're supposed to react to fit the fangirl stereotype (I'm not saying it's right of them).

    • I find it sad that anyone is this ignorant. Stalkers are that crazy. Stalkers would kill someone. Stalkers are not a joke either. You are an idiot.

They have documented cases of these type of incidents happening. Not just with celebrity stalkers either. You should not ignore a stalker. They can get very dangerous.

Do some research before you start claiming stalking never escalates. Stalkers do not have a normal mind set. They always have a warped perception of what is really going on in reality.

You often can not reason with a stalker. Since they are not a normal functioning person. Stalkers like this are mentally unwell and need help to understand why there actions are not right.

They are not well enough to figure out everything wrong with their actions on their own. They made multiple shows on this type of stuff and you are really going to say stalking doesn't mean anything? How blind are you?

yes there are stalkers, but they would still stalk even if they weren't in any fandoms, they would just pick some person at random and stalk them instead.

I'm not saying stalkers don't exist, I'm saying the stereotypical fangirl is not dangerous. You're the idiot here.

If you came across a "stereotypical" fangirl and she was dangerous, then maybe she wasn't stereotypical. Duh.

            • Yeah being insanely obsesses is kind of the stereotype. Some people just take it to a dangerous level.
