Is it normal i wonder about the iq chart and retardation?

Retardation is rated with a scale. If you under an amount of points you are retarded. If you are above that you are normal. However I wonder if this is really a good way to rate people. We have some very poorly educated people in this world and some people who are just not very smart. So couldn't someone become retarded if not learning enough or not well educated?

  • Having a low intellect doesn't equal mental retardation. Also the lack of education doesn't contribute to decreasing your IQ, unless there is a severe case of social contact being absent, which would lead to isolation and loss of social skills and ability to interact with other individuals. You can still notice bad behavior in a lot of highly intelligent and educated people (like me). It has more to do with people's personality than with actual intelligence or education. And there is nothing that can be done about it and i really see no issue with it. Someone still need to clean our toilets. If all people were highly educated and intelligent, who would do the dirty work? In some sick, twisted way, we need low lifes so they can serve as a bad example to people who actually want to achieve in life.

You dont have to be educated to have common sense, which is what the majority of IQ tests really are;common sense. everybody as a natural intelligence, educated or not, thats irrelevant

I personally disagree with the IQ scale. I studied psychology for a couple years awhile back and I always had trouble accepting the IQ scale.

I would say all current evidence points to a qualified yes.

Our genetic structures express themselves in different ways according to our environment. Therefore a child that is abused and kept from education can be made to have an IQ lower than what they had the potential to have.

Take say the average IQ of the Caribbean nation of Dominica in 1965 which was 61. This would at that time who have diagnosed the average person as intellectually disabled. Their current IQ is higher due to better conditions and education.

An adult probably can't increase or decrease their intellect significantly though. Except in cases of brain damage.

Are...are you basing this off an episode of family guy?
I don't think family guy is necessarily factual...

It's quite interesting that that is actually a genuine scale.
But in response to the main question, an IQ test doesn't test your knowledge, it tests your problem solving capability, so a lack of education shouldn't affect the results.
Practicing IQ tests would certainly skew the results but people don't do that, educated or otherwise

    • No this is factual. Its based on a chart. If that show has factual information should not be surprising. "Family Guy" is just satire. It makes jokes on current events and recent happenings. Its may be crude but that is what it is.
