    The technology, or the programs?

    • Both. Not how TV functions because that's, ya know, already known, but other aspects of the technology side like how, when and why certain advancements were made and how it related to the world at the time and how it impacted the culture or conversely, culture's impact on TV.

There have been a few studies that I'm aware of that explore tv's effect on society. Hitler's rise to power and politics in general have been greatly influenced by the introduction of television. Communication is a powerful tool. It is used to inform and manipulate. But what are the unintended consequences of such a device?

        • Yes, I know and I want to go even further than any other study that has been done. I'm looking into commercials, economy, food, style, humor, issues, crime, weather, news, race, programs, personalities, genres, appearance/clothing, and so on as well as technology and even subcultures and trying to make every connection possible. Most studies I've seen have an agenda or only scratch the surface, I want to bust open the whole thing.

You should make another post if you ever get this published to let us know, because I'm very intriqued. TV has been such a driving force in our culture since it's invention and I think most people take for granted how much the media has shaped the world we live in today.

Start with that. Why do they only scratch the surface? Sure they have agendas, who would watch a scattered thought process that went nowhere? And how do you create a study without a theory to work with?

What are your thoughts on the connection between television and differents aspects of society? What connection do you want to suss out first?
