Is it normal i want to be insomniac?

The other night I didn't sleep at all because I was not tired. But I wasn't bored. I found myself lost in thought, and calm. I thought of some pros and cons for insomnia (pro: can't over sleep. con: can't dream.) I'm wondering if it is normal and if anyone else feels this way

Dear OP, as mentioned by Dappled and Pumpedupkicks Insomnia is no laughing matter. It's not fun. You don't end up deep in thought. It's horrible. After a while you end up going crazy. Hallucinations, depression, self harm, still sound like a good idea? Take our advice and just be happy you CAN sleep

well I've always thought that my insomnia was a result of my depression, as is the self harming. I've never known insomnia to actually cause such things??

Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it. Feeling drained, disconnected, and frustrated is not as fun as it seems. Thank your lucky stars if you are able to get a refreshing night of sleep when you need it.

    remember having insomnia isn't fun.

it's not just some long party where you never have to sleep... it's a condition where you can't sleep even when you want to.

If u don't sleep of a night it Fs up your hormones. I was insomniac for years and I had all sorts of problems not to mention after months it gets so boring. If I went back in time I'd do things so differently!

You just want something that makes you different. For attention maybe? Everyone wants something wrong with them for the pity. So yes, it's normal. But no, it's not healthy.

considering most of the worlds population gets a full nights rest, this condition is not normal. tho something a little less normal is sleep paralysis. i experience this quite often. it is when your mind is somewhat awake while your body is still dead asleep. your brain tells your body to wake up and move but it doesnt respond. it usually happens when i take a long nap before bedtime.

I suffered from insomnia, would stay up all night on the couch watching pointless shit in a zombie trance like state, if i drank i fell asleep though. I discovered that reading before bedtime actually got rid of it, and like someone already pointed out i get through a hell of a lot of books aswell.

  • Trust me you need sleep or else you'll end up going crazy and start mating with people's sheds. To this day I can't look my neighbour in the eye.

I must admit, the one good thing about insomnia is that it's given me the opportunity to read tons of books. Years ago, I read that one way to bring upon sleep is to read until you feel sleepy. So I do that, but usually I just read throughout the entire night. Nothing like reading a good bool at three in the morning; absolutely no distractions!

Dude... I'm an insomniac. It is NOT fun.

I stay up all night tossing to and fro, trying to go to sleep before I give up and just lay there until 7am, when I have to go to
    My job as a Zooligist.

I have gotten bitten by wolves countless times because I'm so tired that I don't pay my full attention, but luckily only one of the bites were fatal (which I recovered easily).

Stop in your tracks and don't even THINK about becoming an insomniac. Right now, it's midnight and i feel as awake as if I am running in a giant field, jumping over hurdle and avoiding objects.

I miss dreaming, I miss the happiness of dong whatever I want in my dreams, wether it's from spending the rest of my life with my family to spending the rest of my life in a cave, alone, as a wolf.

DO NOT feel the same pain that I do every single day. I lay there crying through my lack of sleep, not even being able to cry myself to sleep, I stay awake all night as if waiting for the extremely rare miracle that I get a couple of hours of sleep.

You kidding me? One night without sleep is nothing, try going for a week, I dare you, and see how you feel about it then.

Wow, the longest I've gone w/o sleep is around 60 hours. And towards the end I was seriously hallucinating and boreline delirious. It was a feeling like being the drunkest I've ever been times twelve. My body/mind just eventually gave out. I cannot at all imagine going without sleep for more than three days!

Insomnia is actually terrible! Trust me you don't want to be an insomniac! No matter what plans I try to overcome this it doesn't work. Sometimes I try to say ok fine I'll stay up all night (not like I had a choice) and all day and then by the next night I'll be so tired so I'll be able to get some sleep. But my plan fails and before I know it it's 5 am and I didn't get any sleep. Again... It really takes a toll on your body not to mention work/school or whatever it is. Seriously not fun. The only thing that I like about it is having alone time for myself to relax which is nice but still not worth it at all.

Pumpedupkicks and I have both had issues with sleep. There are some tiny, tiny side-benefits but mostly it's all negative. If I could magic away my insomnia, I'd do it without a second thought.

People who sleep normally can choose to stay awake all night if they want. I don't have that choice. I'm forced into it.

When you know you have a busy day coming and you've already given up on sleep at 1am and know the following day is going to now be harder due to lack of sleep, it's a bad feeling. When it happens again the night after and you have to perform after 48 hours of wakefulness, it's worse. When you get to day thirteen and you can count on one hand the hours of sleep you've had in all that time, it starts becoming desperate. And when I say desperate, I'm being typically English and understated. The closest I've come to death is via sleep deprivation.

It's only for short-term insomnia, sadly, because it's addictive and also the body builds a tolerance. Mine is as long-term as it gets. I've had it all my life. :(

        • Aww. Rubbish. I only ever get it every now and again, maybe once a year. The good thing about being in Australia is that Doctors don't share notes so I have a continuous supply. I'm lucky though I do get to sleep naturally well half the time. Off to sleep now in fact. Good night Dappled!x

Awww, good night, tottykins. I'll be climbing into bed just as you're getting out of it. We should do a bed-share with someone from Alaska. All three of us need a different eight hours! :)
