Is it normal i want something done about a serial sexual predator?

I live in a small town where a local man has been raping, sexually assaulting and stalking women and girls for about FORTY YEARS and is still doing it. He has been charged only once and the charges were dropped. Successive waves of police officers interview him but never lay charges except for that one occasion.

Most of his victims have remained silent or left town: I have done neither but 4 1/2 years after he raped me he is still threatening me in spite of an intervention order, the most recent incident being trying to run me over in the main street.

Some local men have taken the law into their own hands when "their" women have been targetted and he then leaves town for a while and comes back to continue as before.

A couple of local women even shield him with alibis, introducing him as a reliable tradesman to other women, which is how I met him.

Any ideas, is it normal people? I've talked to the local newspaper and they're not interested. Someone local did recently distribute "Wanted" posters for him to alert others and the cops said if they found out who it was they would charge the person with stalking! Not the rapist you will note, but someone trying to warn others about him.

Our legal system and how they deal with sex crimes is a f**king joke. A rapist can do as little as 6 months if charged and convicted. I did more than that for having brass knunkles on me. I can't say what i would do to someone like that would be normal. Remember everyone is capable of murder not everyone is capable of being a sex offender. So if thats true which is more normal of those two then.

Yeah, you're totally spot on. I don't have the exact stats handy right now, but only a small proportion of sex crimes are reported, only a very small proportion of those result in charges and again, only a small proportion result in convictions.

I'd never thought of that comparison and you're quite right, I agree everyone is capable of murder in the right/wrong circumstances. So yeah, murder is "more normal", which of course doesn't make it OK.

Have you noticed that the wonderful ten commandments supposedly christian nations are based on make coveting your neighbour's donkey a sin, but there's no mention of rape or child sexual abuse even being slightly naughty, let alone sins? In fact the old testament has some extremely nasty stuff about women generally - if you or other readers are interested, have a look at the story of Lot for a start.

Go and see a solicitor, maybe if one of you speak up more victims will come forward.

  • Kidnap, torture, and than murder him. It's what I'd do. It's a worthless life anyway.

It might be a long shot, but perhaps you could write to your local government and petition them to create strong laws against sexual offenders.

Our local governments don't make laws, they collect rates and the garbage, run the libraries, etc.

If you mean the State Government, we already have strong laws against sexual offenders: the problem is that although there's a lot of talk about attitudes of police etc improving, that's all it is, TALK, no action.

Anyway, getting changes in law takes YEARS, I'm concerned for my and other women's safety RIGHT NOW. Sorry if I sound impatient, but I've been working to make the lives of women & kids safe since the Woment's Liberation days of the 70's and sometimes I wonder if anything much has changed much since then, when the cops wouldn't charge my husband with assault because it was "only a domestic incident." No cop would be game to say that in public these days, but the attitudes haven't changed much.

Statute of limitations may be about to run out on your case. This man needs to be charged and put behind bars. The reason why he's continuing to do it is because NO ONE is stepping forward and ending the silence about him.

Wow. What a horrible community to live in. A movie should be made about all this.

You've missed the point entirely, it's a perfectly ordinary community with some wonderful people in it but the people who should be protecting it aren't doing their job

Do you have any constructive suggestions to make? Making a movie about it isn't constructive and who would watch it, it's happening everywhere

I know that wasn't constructive but it certainly did remind me of the kind of dynamics portrayed in crime movies and such. I couldn't live in a place where people are protecting the bad guy so blatantly.

Yeah well I did consider leaving town very briefly, but mostly I'm really happy here and have good friends and family close by, plus beautiful mountains and river, so I'm still here and unfortunately so is he.

There's a bit of action happening with a few people trying to work out what to do about him - lots of ideas, but so far all of them dangerous and definitely illegal! Some hippy trippy types tell me to do nothing and karma will get him, to which I reply that I intend to be his karma ...... just not sure how yet

Family friends and scenery is worth a lot. I hope the rest changes for the better also.

Thank You! I'm fairly sure I have state radio on my side and about to let me have my say and possibly local newspapers as well .......

I'll put any updates on here because so often we don't get to hear the end of IIN people's stories
