Is it normal i throw all my bills directly into the trash?

I usually don't even open them, they just go straight into the "circular file" (the trash can).

I only pay attention when the famous shut-off notice comes, and you can always tell that one from the color and weight of it.

I do electronic bill pay with some bills, but there's certain ones that I don't want to do that with, and there's other ones that don't offer that option. There's also other bills that I'm not ever going to pay, so tough shit!

I only pay secured debt basically, and things like cable and electric. The rest of it is shit that I'm not going to pay and they can kiss my ass. Hospital bills? HA!! Yeah, I'm really going to pay THAT shit!!

Would this potentially affect your credit rating? What would happen if you moved to a new property and you had to get yourself a new electricity provider and they did a credit check? Even a landlord per say could do a credit check on you before you even get to that.

Well for a long time I didn't even bother to open my mail. I used to have alot of penpals, but emailing killed that. So I never really get anything good/personalized in the mail, its normally just bad news.

  • My girlfriend does the exact same thing. She has horrible credit. It kind of gets to me because we split the bill money on the electricity and internet and I feel like I have to pay for those late fees because of her negligance. She does eventually pay the electricity online before it gets shut off, but like you the unopened mail all goes into the garbage. She also ignores phone calls from weird numbers such as collections and the power company almost daily. I often anwser her phone for her and say she isnt there.

    • Perhaps but I don't want to be part of society in that regard. I'm not going to ever play by the 'rules'.

  • Aren't you worried about dumpster divers getting your personal info from your bills in the trash.

    I shred that shit.

    • lol, what are they going to do, ruin my credit??!! Nope, not worried about that!! They'd take one look at the bills I have and say 'fuck that'...shit an illegal alien wouldn't even want my SSN if I was giving it out free. If I did that, it would IMPROVE my credit!!

"Circular File" nice name, but this is bad. I don't know what country you live in but if you don't pay your bills you could wind up in some deep shit! In america, the IRS will get involved that what happened to the guy who was the lead in the film "Blade". If they get you, you'll go to jail and there are allot worse things in there than paying your bills.

It's one thing if you're having money troubles, you could always tell your landlord that the payment would be late. If not, than you're basically stealing the water and money from the hospitable. You could always move to a socialist country where the healthcare is free, but you'll have to pay high taxes and if you left here the country could label you as a "criminal"! What you're doing isn't worth it at all!

    • I never said I was evading taxes. That's a different ballgame. I do evade taxes sometimes but not in any way they could possibly catch me nor would it be worth their time. They tend to just go after sizeable income tax evasion or sales tax evasion (the business is responsible for paying the sales tax to the government, not the customer).

The IRS doesn't give 2 shits if I pay my bills!! They're not involved unless it's a tax debt.

There's no more debtors prisons, the US abolished those in 1833. Yes, people do go to prison, but not for debts, only for CRIMES like tax evasion. Having a debt is not a crime, even if I had a debt to the IRS, that's not a crime, it's just a debt and all they can do is try to collect it, they can't arrest anyone for that.

I said I paid my secured debt and things like my cable, electric and such, if I didn't they'd get shut off.

Normal, the previous tenants of my apartment must have done that because I still get delinquent bills for them in their name. A lot of people do that. Sometimes, I delay hospital bills for a while but I eventually pay them.

Hopefully you don't get the itch to get a home loan, rent a nicer place, or a car loan, or a student loan, or any kind of loan, or anything that requires you to have good credit because this is the kind of shit that will ruin your credit. Depending on how long you have been doing this, you can either recover easily by paying all of the bills or it will take you YEARS to get out of this. Plan for the future, man.

    • I could probably write a successful book about how to evade debts and debtors and still live well and own things. It's come to be my lifestyle, my main goals revolve around beating the legal system and the system in general. I find it more fun and less costly than playing by the 'rules'. Sure, some things take longer and require more paperwork and effort, but it's satisfying to me. I don't get satisfaction from paying off a debt (except in rare cases), I get a lot out of NOT paying them though!!

No, I don't get government assistance, I'm not talking about THAT system, I don't want anything to do with THAT. I'm talking about debt and collection laws, and being tricky and using the law to win.

I didn't say anything about government assistance, dude.

But if you can get away with it, go ahead. The system is corrupt as fuck and they use any excuse that they possibly can to pass these costs onto people who DO pay the bills, which sucks massive dick because they make more than enough money not to.

Hopefully only a handful of people do this, otherwise I'd probably be pissed that the costs are being passed down to other people (like myself).

        • I know I just didn't want anyone to assume by 'system' I meant THAT system!!

I think everyone should do this, it's the only way shit will change. I did it because I wasn't going to take their shit anymore, this method of protest DOES work. I see some things changing, some are towards an overhaul and some are trying to clamp down on people like me, so it must be at least starting to put a hurt on the 'system'.

It's a personal prediction of mine that we're going to see a big change in credit reporting/credit reports/scoring and possibly even a new credit bureau relatively soon.

            No, I didn't assume that.

However, the more likely possibility is thet their first resort will be to pass these costs onto the other customers.

You should sign up for electronic billing so you aren't wasting so much paper and postage. What are you purchasing or using that doesn't offer this?

And you should watch out for hospital bills, sometimes they will garnish wages to get their money.
