Is it normal i think this about people opposing age difference

There are several is it normal threads about older men dating younger girls. In the comment section I always see some people trying to "talk the girl out of it". I believe they are either of the following people who have a vested interest against it:

1. older women
2. younger guys
3. Parents of the younger girl

is it normal to think that?

  • I have tried to talk people out of it sometimes on IIN because of the things I've learned in university about people and human behaviour.

Also, I remember back to when I was a teen and how thoroughly grossed out I was when men older than about 30-ish would make passes at me. At the time, I wanted to scream at the to "fuck off" but I'd just get away from them quickly.

And I have a very close friend who has a teenage daughter and the thought of some creepy old guy trying to fuck her and justify it with some equally creepy excuse makes my blood boil.

So, I'm not any of the stereotypes that you have listed, but I still think it's raunchy and immoral for my own reasons.

This. The power dynamics of a teenage girl with an older man are all fucked up. The same goes for a teenage boy with an older woman.

    • I've come back to add: That I feel the same way about it when the genders are reversed.

This summer I saw a 34 year old woman flirting sexually with a 13 year old boy. Later, she apologized to the mother of the child (they are/were friends) and her excuse was that she was drunk. Personally, I think being drunk is not a good enough excuse. There really is no acceptable excuse for it though. She, being the adult, should be able to control herself a little more.

Same. I've always had a thing for older guys, but for some reason I've noticed that too. There always seems to be someone trying to talk me out of it. Or theres always someone trying to say that younger girls who go after older guys have either 'daddy issues' or they're 'gold diggers'. Which I find to be quite pathetic, because some people really just genuinely like older guys. I mean, I do have an age limit. But whoever people like really isn't that big of a deal to me.

Although, I could see where it could get creepy. Like with what Squirrel-Whisperer said. But if you're of legal age and you like them and they like you, I don't see what the problem is.

I've also been told before that their must be a problem with older guys going for younger girls. I went on a date with a guy that was 35, and obviously my mom didn't really like the idea of it too much. She said to me; "Whats wrong? These older guys can't get someone their own age? Why are they all chasing a 21 yr old?!?!?".

You forgot a major source: her friends of the same age.

Why would older women have a vested interest in it?

Probably just because they're not really getting any of the guys their age, because they're going for the younger women. So they're angry about it.

Oh. But I advise girls not to go out with guys way older than them, even though I'm about to get married to a guy my own age. If a 16 year old were talking about going out with a guy my fiancé's age, I would absolutely advise against it, because the power dynamics would be all messed up.

Also, I wouldn't go out with the sort of guy who'd prey on very young women.
