Is it normal i think patriots are idiots?

I think patriots are stupid. I thought like this for quite some time. I just find it to be the reason for most of the wars on Earth.
A bunch of men just come together to draw lines on a sheet of paper and afterwards start yelling "This is my space! Get out!". After that they start throwing rocks at eachother. I think everyone should stop protecting their precious pieces of dirt and come together like sensible people.
Am I the only one that feels this way?

Nationalism is a negative thing very akin to the worst kinds of racism. Unlike racism however it is encouraged as a tool of control.

I feel a good person has their allegiance to humanity rather than a flag or anthem.

I would very much like to be patriotic to my country. Unfortunately, I do not believe that the USA deserves my allegiance. It is no longer a country of the people, by the people and for the people, but a country for the almighty dollar and fuck the people.
I cannot in good conscience just say, "my country right or wrong". Who are we to tell other countries what government they should have, how they should act or what they should believe, if we cannot even provide jobs, house, educate and provide health care for all our own citizens?

I saw the late george Carlin speak on this, saying he doesnt understand when people say "proud to be an American" because pride is attached to achievement and you have no control over where you are born, its the luck of the draw, really. He says a better thing to say would be
    "Happy to be an American"

Do you see the difference? I think the man has a point.

You speak thus because you've never known invasion or wars, or severe hardship. Loyalty extends from family, to community, and state and to nation. When this whole heap comes crashing down, you'd be wise to stick with the patriots.

Oh, you mean like those patriots (Bohner & Cruz)who shut down our government and caused irreparable damage to our economy and caused millions of Americans so much hardship? The one's who lost the election and are so patriotic that they no longer believe in the principle that the majority should rule?
The ones like the head of the tea party in Oregon who hasn't paid his mortgage in 3 years or the head of Iowan tea party who has 6 kids on Medicaid, but wants to cut Social Security benefits to those who've already earned them??
      Yeah, REAL patriots, those.

Please, please tell me you are kidding?
You are not aware that a few Republicans shut down the US government for 17 days and brought the world to the edge of economic disaster this month?

Patriots follow the belief the country was founded on not the disloyal corrupt government that currently runs it. Its the constitution and the bill of rights which they follow. Those are the people who care the most but dislike what its become.

What Constitution? What Bill of Rights?
Have you read the Patriot Act?
Obviously you are an American, but are not aware that your civil rights are no longer applicable; you can be incarcerated for an indeterminate period of time and you DO NOT get a lawyer or even a phone call, so no one even knows what happened to you; you just disappear!
I am ashamed of the United States, of what it has become and how it bullies the rest of the world.
And it is the people of the United States that have allowed this to happen; it just didn't happen by magic, you know. The people elected the "corrupt government that currently runs it" and turn a blind eye after they are in power.

  • There's nothing, whatsoever, wrong with being true to your county, culture, political beliefs, school, subculture, clique, or whatever group you participate in. It's human nature to gravitate to like-minded souls, and to feel good about being a part of something great.

It becomes a problem when peoples impose or force those beliefs on others.

The whole point of what I was trying to say was that countries produce complications. It would be much better if we were all for humanity and not some specific location on Earth. Sure, we do gravitate towards like-minded individuals, but that doesn't mean we have to set up walls to seperate eachother.

Patriotism is not racism you twit. It simply means you care about your country and will defend it and its values. It does not mean you believe their own country should destroy every other on the bloody planet. You can not change where you are from. So I see no point in making people feel like shit about it. So leave the patriots alone.

I think it is pretty stupid. As an american I mostly run in to american patriots, and they say things like "AMERICA IS BETTER THAN MUSLIMS WE SHUD NUKE DEM" They say it as loud and offensively as possible.

To "stop protecting their precious pieces of dirt and come together like sensible people" is easier said than done, and probably easier said in a land of plenty than in a land of need.

I do, however, dislike patriotism, partly because countries and borders are man-made and somewhat arbitrary.

Yes!!! But I suppose this whole "patriotic" thing, makes them feel like they're a part of something..like a family. So I understand where it comes from.

You can't "go shoot my guns and fuck my sister while listenin to toby keith" until your dog dies, your wife has run away with another man/woman, your pickup is broke down and you ain't got a cold one in the fridge. THEN you can "go shoot my guns and fuck my sister while listenin to toby keith", remember?

I was on my way to the Toby Keith concert with my sister when I backed up and hit my dog. He wasn't quite dead so I had to shoot him.
