Is it normal i think identifying as "queer" is the newest fad?

I have nothing against LGBT people but it seems like everyone is "queer" nowadays. I noticed none of those "queer" people identify as gay or lesbian but rather as queer or some variant of trans. Yet most of them are either in heterosexual relationships or solely date the same gender. It seems like they call themselves "queer" because they are open to experimenting with a person of the same sex or are into androgyny.

I don't doubt for a second that actual LGBT people exist but I think most of these so-called "queer" people are actually straight but identify as "queer" to make themselves stand out. Apparently, being straight isn't cool anymore.

  • I kinda feel like everyone is "a little gay" like I think it's near impossible to absolutely never find someone of the same sex arousing or to have romantic feeling for them. I definitely think people blow it out of proportion though. Finding some undeniably attractive man to be, well, undeniably attractive, shouldn't equate to you being gay, or queer. I've had plenty of sexually confusing moments, doesn't make me queer.

I wouldn't call it a fad, just that simple out of the blue attraction is blown way far out of proportion.

Never heard anyone claim to be "queer" or any alternate gender except in cringe compilations.

Possibly an agenda promoted by groups such as the gay mafia etc.

I'm not sure where you live, but where I live there's a big community of gays and they never really call themselves "queers"

maybe the reason why there are more "queer" people is because they are less likely to be ridiculed, harassed, bullied, or killed like they did back in the old days when being that wasn't so accepted in society today.

they feel more safe in todays social standards, and don't have to hide anymore.

It must be the new trend in attention whoring for nonentities with no identity.

They just want to be controversial. No one cares if someone is gay these days so they have to take it to another level by dressing up as a woman or whatever they can think of just to get attention or to act like a victim.

I kinda feel this way too, even though I have plenty of friends who identify as "genderqueer" or "gender fluid," but I think that no one is essentially anything, and that sexuality and gender are both biologically and choice based, so why not make the choice to be controversial and subvert societal norms? Being straight/cis isn't cool anymore, and that's a good thing (and I'm saying that as a straight cis lady).

Maybe it has just become more acceptable to openly admit it.

Why must people use labels like that?
