Is it normal i think cheerleading sexuallizes young teenagers?

This might piss off some of you woman who had cheer leading but think about it. They make women wear skimpy outfits to cheer and motivate boys by saying "Hey boys! Look we are hot and rooting for you! So you better win"! This is a tradition for many schools. Which I find funny. Oddly enough men with daughters do not seem to object a lot to this kind of thing. Not a girl saying this either.

It's totally just cheerleading and not the media or pressure from other girls that sexualizes them.

    • I never said that was not a factor. I just said it seems to be encouraging this type of behavior.

ok im a cheerleader. The only diffrence though is this poll question is about highschool cheerleading. I am an all-star cheerleader and we wear what we wear so we can move more easily and to look more proffesional on stage. High school cheerleading is a little diffrent though. i am also a highschool cheerleader and we dont just do it to look cute and get attention from guys. We do it because its what we love to do and because we like to perform infront of crows and get people pumped up. Honestly most cheerleaders would still cheer even if we had to just wear sweatpants and baggy t-shits. (i didnt mean to sound like you were wrong though cause i see where you are coming from)

    • Well I meant cheer leading overall. They have college and professional cheer leading for the professional sport teams too right?

Good point. I mean, their moves are pretty impressive, like making a tower and climbing on each other and doing splits, but their outfits are too revealing when they jump and their skirts flap. It'd be better if they would wear shorts.
But sports DO need a good show for cheering :)

Yes and that's why I'm glad there are no cheerleaders in my school. I'm not even sure if there are any schools with cheerleaders in my whole country.

I wouldn't let my daughter cheer lead.

    • Really Dan, Because of my post or because you already had similar ideas about the sport?

        Yes really.

Luckily i don't have a daughter and i am pretty sure we don't have cheer leaders in the U.K. yet.

I understand your point, but right now there is a boy trying out for the cheer squad in my little cousin's middle school, yes it is still a predominantly female sport, however there is hope.

Not only that.. peer pressure in high schools for smoking, drinking, losing virginity, wearing skimpy clothing, goths, vampires... the list goes on. Your society is decaying, thus the crazy people who shoot in cinemas, schools..

Is it the outfit? Just the clothes that makes you think it's sexualized? You should see the uniform of cheerleaders back then: long skirts.
I think cheer leading is a dangerous sport, and it's just how the media and society perceive the sport as more sexual and people feel they have to be all 'slutty' especially in those 'skimpy' uniforms they have to sport.
I don't partake cheerleading nor does my family members, so I'm just nonchalant about the whole thing.

Its a sport, ask any pedobear. And some cheerleadering is actually group gymnastics, but most is just crap
