Is it normal i think all people should have basic manners?

Men seem to think that burping and farting and smelling like a trashcan is cool. Some women trying to be like men will imitate this. Though I think man or women this is very impolite to do. Is it normal I think we should all have manners?

Yes and I agree 66

I think so yes. Manners can get you everywhere too. Working in customer service, I know that I am more inclined to help out and discount things for my polite customers than people who are rude, indifferent or demanding.

There's nothing impolite about having basic bodily functions. I suppose you must live a blissful, gasless existence but the rest of us mere mortals are not as fortunate.

    • So you think having a farting and burping contest is polite? I guess talking about how big the log in the toilet was? or maybe how you farted and it smelled like eggs and absolutely every function you have ever done in the restroom? That seems sophisticated?

Well that's a different question. Doing anything unnecessarily and frequently to the point where it reasonably annoys other people is rude, yes. But simply farting or burping once or twice because you have gas isn't rude whatsoever, it's normal.

        • So do you think we should have all that or that we should have manners? Farting because you had to is one thing. Doing it to be funny is an entirely other matter. Why I said "think it is funny". Someone having to is not them thinking it is funny.

I think people have a right to do whatever they like in the company of friends who think its hilarious, but they shouldn't force it onto people who don't think it's hilarious or do it around those people too much. The same goes for any action in a social place though, not just farts and burps, like playing loud music or play-fighting. Farts and burps are governed by the same social laws as anything else as far as I'm concerned.

Who the hell are you hanging out with?

The guys I'm friends with don't fart and burp endlessly in public and share stories of their last shit. That's a puerile thing to do which for most people ceases to be funny and/or interesting after adolescence.

I'll burp at work and excuse myself. Then I get graded, critiqued, and told to not excuse myself because no one cares. No one at my office finds this impolite. And we are comfortable enough with each other that we even discuss bowel movements. Dear God!

    • You mean they were upset when you excused yourself? Where do you work?

They weren't upset. They teased me for being overly polite. It was really quite funny.

I think farting is a hilarious bodily function, but I have my limits. I never fart (openly) at work or in other public places.

I didn't realize it was possible to never ever burp or fart. Please teach me your tricks, is there something you can do to stop it, like putting a finger up to your nose to prevent a sneeze?

Don't generalise men! Most men do not go around burping, farting and smelling like a trash can. It is not our fault you are hanging around the wrong men!

Choose better men to be friends with. None of my friends acted this way ever. The number of women (not all) that act this was is just as high.

I know of some people that are cleaners in the USA and they have said in the USA women's restrooms are far more gross than the men's are, that women leave used toilet paper on the floor, pee everywhere when they squat, leave toilet bowls full of poo and not flush and leave pads and tampons all over the floor in parts of the USA.

I think that is really gross and the cleaners I know have said that is what happens in parts of the USA but that does not mean I think all American women are like this and it does not mean I am going to say they all are either as there is gross some gross people from any country which is why you can't generalise about men being gross because most of us are not gross.

Not all men are like that you know. Take me for example I shower at least once a day, never burp without saying excuse me, and will try my hardest not to fart around anyone (whenever I do I appologise). It's like my dad says "chivalry is not dead, its only wounded" :p.

Depends on the situation. I was at a black tie event last night and manners were a necessity the night before I was out with my mates and manners were not needed.
