I think as much as we miss our childhood friends, we also miss that kind of friendship-friendships that are born out of shared experiences and blind faith. We grow older and live separate lives and become disparate people. It seems more difficult later in life to bond with the kind of enthusiasm children share. They say you can never go home again, and there is some truth in that. But hopefully we build new relationships and grow in other rewarding ways...

I missed a friend from childhood too. I found him on FB, said "Hi" laughed about the good old days, then we went back to our own separate lives and don't keep in touch anymore.

It was nice to know that he's still alive and happy. He was my red-headed bestie from when I was 3 until I was 10. He always had the best Star Wars toys too.

Yes, that is normal. There are some people from my childhood that I wish I still knew, especially a few girls in particular, but such is life. Everyone has there own lives to live and relationships change. It's not always for the better, but it's something you just have to learn to accept and move on with. I am still learning this myself, but as you get older you come to this realization more and more often.
