Is it normal i only listen to classical music and i'm 19?

I used to be really into RnB and pop, from a while back I started to listen to classical music (mostly piano solos) and I now think that all the pop and that is just shallow and all the same. I think that people who dont like classical either DONT want to like it or they are just shallow themselves. Anybody else like that out there?

It's awesome thAt you listen to classical. My brother is the same way. He even started teaching himself how to play the piano at 19, and now he plays Mozart Bach and Beethoven like a pro! You should start

  • I'm also 19 and I think classical music beats R&B/HipHop anytime of the day. Lol. It's just more beautiful and meaningful. R&B and HipHop just seems to have no good point..

I like some classical music, especially cello and piano pieces, and there are some sublime classical film scores out there (music by Thomas Newman, Yann Tiersen, Michael Andrews) etc.).

But I'd never assume people who don't like classical music are shallow. You like what you like; you can't help loving classical music, some people can't help having no interest in it. If it doesn't sound good to someone, don't conclude it's because they're in denial or lack the depth of emotion and personality to enjoy it. If you do, you're just perpetuating the stereotype that those who always listen to classical music are condescending elitists.

If you play an instrument used in classical music it is definitely normal.

Be careful judging others, you are becoming pretentious.

Yes! I am fairly young (a couple yrs older than you) and I love classical music. I think pop, R&B, rap, and most other popular types of music ARE shallow. I do like a lot of other types of music too but they share many characteristics with classical. For instance, Therion mixes metal with classical and opera (symphonic metal), and their music is far from shallow.

If you actually look up and study classical music you will find that popular music today is infinitely less complex, subtle, and utilizes only a very small fraction of what classical music does. Julian Lee has some good articles on this if you're ever interested.

My favorite classical is Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and Wagner. But I also like and listen to less well-known composers, I just think they are the best IMO.

    • Hymn I do study classical music mostly because I have to which is what got me into it in the first place. Yes those are my favourite composers too and Chopin and Liszt.
