Is it normal i occasionally hear a beeping sound?

I've Google'd it but everything seems to come to the same result; "hearing loss", "cancer", "stroke", "schizophrenia" all the usual hysterical stuff. Pretty similar to when you Google "Why am I getting this headache" and there are webpages popping up with "oh you're going to die of cancer" or similar.

The fact of the matter is, I know it's normal and plenty of people get it. It's just a soft (although it can be loud occasionally) sound in the ear, that resembles a "beep", that occurs from time to time. What I want to know is why it happens.

It happens to me for a short amount of time now and then, not often. In fact I hear that beep in my left (my left, not from another's perspective) ear right now. I'm just mildly curious as to why it occurs.

Finally, does anyone else get this? I realise it's fairly normal but I'm not entirely sure of the extent of this normality.

I asked a doctor a question like this a few days ago he said its basically refreshing your hearing kinda like hiccups or yawning, how there meant to sync up your breathing, so the same thing could be for hearing or its just the air pressure

I get it while I'm asleep. I hear it in my dreams or if I'm in sleep paralysis.

I know this is a sound you get occasionally and then it disappears. But i've got a friend who has it all the time. he went to the doctor about it, and they said it is normal but they don't really know how to heal it (although they were researching about it and they might have found something useful, they weren't really trying it loads yet) and the best he coudl do was try to sleep with music if it bothered him, and mainly not think about it at all and he'd end up by forgetting it and not really hearing it anymore (since he'd be too used) unless he actually remembered "where's the beep?"

    • Odd, I'm not sure if that's normal but if the doctors said it was I suppose it is.

Good luck to your friend, I'm glad I don't have it that bad.
