Is it normal i mistook a pregnant woman for being fat?

I don't really pay attention to who's in any of my classes... but this one girl, I could have sworn she was just big... turned out she was pregnant.

This is why you shouldn't judge people.

Isn't it usually the other way around? Lol.

    • Lol, I know. Though I think it's slightly less insulting this way.

Yes. that's normal, you do tend to look fat if you wear loose clothes and don't have particularly skinny arms.

I said not normal, because she must have been fat and pregnant not just pregnant which is not normal, but common. Of course that has no barring on the validity of your perception.

I did once congratulate a woman on being pregnant when in fact she had just put loads of weight on....omg, did I want to die!

I have to say that it is very much common.

    Well yes, if she's fat.

That's funny, happens to me all of the time.
Considering that, if you're in the US, guessing that she is overweight would have been statistically likely, yes I'd say it's normal.

    • What happens to you all the time? That people mistake you for being pregnant when you're just a bit overweight, or that you're actually pregnant and people mistake you for just being fat?

The funny thing is, even though I'm American, I've seen more average and thin people than I have overweight or obese people.

No, I am average weight. I mistake pregnant women as just chunky women all of the time.

May be the region you live in. I lived in the South and Southern California. SoCal is horrible for child obesity and youth obesity whereas I have noticed the South is horrible for obesity in middle aged and older adults.

        • Haha, lol- then I'm glad I'm not alone :)

Yeah, I guess it can be where I live.... there's kind of a mix of everything where I live, so it's not really like there's a huge amount of fat or skinny people.

I know someone who mistook herself for being fat until she got stomach aches, was admitted to hospital and gave birth the next day. I swear you couldn't tell from looking at her.

        I've seen that one.
In half of the episodes, there is no father present, the women actually ARE fat, got pregnant by accident, and by the end of the episode said they were expecting a number.

=.= It made me lose hope for humanity

    • But... how is that possible? Did she not notice that she didn't have her period for nine months?

I didn't like to ask. We weren't close enough for us to talk about her periods. She was a very big girl so I suspected maybe she often skipped periods. But she can't have skipped them all because, after all, she got pregnant.

It happens, but usually the other way around.

  • I think pregnant looks pregnant.

I find it's more difficult to notice pregnancy on chubbier women and it's not a good idea to show any sort of shock when they tell you they are pregnant.
