Is it normal i missed jury duty? and nothing has happened yet?

I was assigned jury duty. I was suppose to call the day before and forgot. I got it a month ahead of time. I don't understand how they expect you to remember something a month later. Anyways I never called in and missed the date. Does that mean I broke the law?

Tell them you had a Klan rally scheduled at the same time.

You think remembering something that is a month away is hard? Do you not own a calender?

Ignorance is no excuse. It is illegal. And chances are, nothing will happen. But it will depend on where you live as to how the judge will respond. You can be arrested and/or fined. Personally, I'd find that more inconvenient than sitting in a room all day waiting for your name to be called.

Call them to apologise unless you want a fine

    • They gave me a month notice and I wasn't suppose to call till the day before. So I forgot about it.

If this is your first offense it shouldn't be a big deal, but this depends a lot on where you're located. It's something you could be fined for, jail time, or you may get rescheduled. Really though, it's hard to say as it depends on the judge and area. One thing though, you don't want to get caught with a warrant for Failure to Appear. Call your courthouse or see them in person, the consequences will dwindle in comparison if the law doesn't have to go to you. For a little insight as to how strict your area is, look up "missed jury duty (insert location here)".

  • If they try to do anything be prepared to have a good story, such as you were sick, or didn't get the notice.

I thought of not going, or mentioning that I was aware of jury nullification, I know it's everyone's juty etc but the though of being in a courtroom made me really anxious, I enjoyed it though.
I know someone who missed it and nothing happened but my brother's friend missed it and got a 1500 pound fine, it took a while to come through though
