Is it normal i might be bipolar ?

I'm a girl, is it normal that I have like really bad mood swings. I'm a dry nice person I could be laughing one minute & the next I'm just a complete bitch for no reason. The littlest things piss me off like if my boyfriend doesn't text me back within 10 I get mad & break up with him. He calls me bipolar. Is this normal? Am I bipolar please help me ?!

I agree. If I went to the doctor right this minute, I could probably be prescribed with four or five different mental disorders. Does that make me bipolar, schizo, or anything else? No, not in my eyes.

I went to the doctor once and they prescribed me with anxiety and anorexia. A couple Weeks passed and i quit taking both of them. Never been better!

Haha i like how you said prescribe instead of diagnose. That's basically how it works with mental disorders. The label is what makes people feel better, allowing people to fit into a group and justify negative behaviors, but it also encourages people to all for help (usually in. the form of drugs, unfortunately).

OP, if you want to be bipolar, be bipolar ;) But if you really want to understand yourself remove the label and really ask yourself "WHY?" when you overact. Explore your emotions and listen to your thoughts. No one can tell you what you are, you have to figure that out

Lol thank you guys so much, I don't think I am either. I think everything is fine & even if I was I couldn't be that "bi-polar" I my boyfriend is still with me, I'm starting to think that it's probably my hormones acting up because I am 16.

You really aren't bi-polar, believe me. Unfortunately the disorder seems to have developed some sort of glamour associated with it, mainly through media exposure. There has been a vast increase in the portrayal of bi-polar characters, or those with mental illness in general, in films and TV shows as they want to seem interesting and edgy. I'm not saying that's why you're wondering if you're bi-polar at all, it's just that it's often misrepresented through media, so people don't fully understand the symptoms, and what a struggle life is for someone who genuinely suffers from the disorder. As previously mentioned, doctors are often far too quick to deal out diagnoses, particularly since much of the science of mental illness is still not yet full understood. It is true that pretty much anyone could be diagnosed with behaviour considered 'abnormal', but in all honesty, the symptoms you've described sound very normal. Furthermore, the term 'bi-polar' is often used as a superlative for mood-swings, though not at all accurately. So don't worry, you're fine!

Thanks guys & I don't think I'm bipolar, my boyfriend does. But I don't get like depressed. I think alot & keep to myself though, if that counts?

This isn't enough information to determine if you're bipolar. Do you have depressive phases, and then fits of anger?? Or do you have rapid thinking, burst of ideas, totally euphoric; do you cry a lot; feel iiritated, edgy for no reason...those last two are normal for teenage girls because of hormones, or females of any age if pmsing.

But to be bipolar, you'd have to go through either (mild to severe) depressed states and manic states, or (most likely severe) depressed states and hypomanic states.

It's not just based on casual, even if abrupt, changes in your behavior. In other words, just laughing, then losing your temper is not indicative of a mental illness. Congratulations. You're probably fine. ;)
