Is it normal I'm obsessed with death and suicide?

I'm a 30 something male who has seemed to have hit a brick in life and I think I'm slowly becoming depressed.

Most nights, I drink and think about about death and suicide to the point where I think I'm getting obsessed with it?

IIN?

Hang in there, friend. I've been really down before and things get better eventually. Do you have one close friend/relative you can talk to?

    • I thought I did. I tried talking to my partner last night, and she just ignored me and played on her phone.

Depression can often lead to suicidal thoughts. You can beat this.

Talk to a therapist about it, and control your drinking. If it becomes an addiction, then you will eventually lose the buzz that alcohol used to give you and you'll go deeper into your depression.

The fact is, there are plenty of programs out there for people in your position and with just a little bit of online searching, I'm sure you can find some near you.
As for 'hit a brick in life', I assume you mean brick wall, and that also is extremely common at your age, for both men and women. Many marriages break down at about this time, and many people often change occupations. If you don't give up and have the balls to fight your way back from this, you still have many years ahead to accomplish your goals and fulfill your desires.
If you don't care for the gift you've been given, then please fill out your organ donor card. There are so many who are fighting tooth and nail for what you already have, and it's only right that something good out of your cowardliness.

    • You think people commit suicide out of cowardliness? I'd have to disagree with you there on that one sir. I believe people commit suicide when they are utterly desperate and have exhausted all other options, believing all hope is lost.

I think suicide is the ultimate cowardly act. Checking out and leaving others to clean up one's messes is definitely NOT the act of a brave person.
No matter how bad things get, anything can happen in the next few seconds, minutes, days, etc. that could change things.
It takes strength and bravery to fight and win against all odds, so yes I do believe suicide is just the coward's way out.

        • I still have to disagree with you there. I do believe some suicides are committed by weak people who just opt to take the easy way out, but say someone who has been emotionally abused all their life and end it to stop the suffering? They're not a coward. The people who cause that harm are.

You can tell yourself whatever you please to justify your actions, but everyone else will see you as a coward who took the easy way out. You can try to blame others, but it is still you in the end who are choosing to take the coward's way out.
Nobody respects a coward, nobody. Those who are respected are those who don't give up, those who fight their way through, and against all odds, find a way to persevere.
If you think you have it bad and your life is hopeless, just imagine what life was like for Stephen Hawking as a teen, and yet he managed to not only survive, he thrived.
You are just looking for excuses to quit and for some strange reason you think you'll find supporters on here.
Well, I am not one of them and I don't see anything noble or brave in killing yourself, just cowardly.

            • Whatever, you're not listening to what I'm trying to say. Obviously you are set in your way and aren't open for a debate or discussion on why people commit suicide.
