Is it normal i'm fascinated with the human mind?

This might sound like an easy "Yes!" question, but the truth of the matter is; I'm interested in what makes so many people so simple-minded, ignorant, and need other people or ideas to feel happy (socially, religiously).

I think I just have a burning hate for the human race, but I want to change us to be better. I believe we all have the capability to be rational, thinking humans and ever since I embraced this side of me, I started noticing there's a lot more idiots around me than I ever thought possible.

Even on here, I'm ashamed that even some people here have the right to even insult others for something they like/enjoy.

I often wonder about the human mind too. According to psychologists, everything you do, feel, etc is connected to a psychological issue. Is that really true?

    • I've heard about that and I think that explains my irritating family. No matter how much I try to defend my atheistic beliefs and try to back it up why I don't believe in their shit, I am faced with talking to a stone that works on double standards.

If I said something supporting Christianity, they would agree with me instantly. If I said something against it...and brought evidence to back my side up, they would outright say it's not true and that I'm lying.

See the double standard? There's certain people in this world who aren't looking for truth, they're looking for a belief that makes them feel good; and are willing to discriminate gays and non-Christians because of it.

I feel the exact same way, however, I don't think I'm surrounded by idiots. The Human Mind fascinates me as well. I think that it fascinates a lot of people, which is why physiologist don't earn a lot money. We're different the mentalities we want to explore. I have to say that I'm more interested in all types of minds, not just the ignorant or stupid ones. Frankly, I'm more interested in sociopaths and outgoing ones. When it comes to individuals that are stupid, well I'm not surprised by that, but I am by genius. I think that you're normal in your curiosity though.

Also, I agree that people have a choice on whether they want to apply themselves in school or not.

    • Everything you said is true for me. What surprised me lately was the people who remain irrational, discriminatory, and ignorant by choice. My family is sadly...among them.

I'm sorry to hear that about your family. However, you seem to be different from them. Maybe you're family isn't the smartest but they're the only ones you got. If you want to understand others, try talking to them like equals.

        • I don't understand how I could grow up and end up being completely different from my family. I see the world in a true light, at least, how I perceive it.

I understand now what is the problem with them. It's a combination of society-enforced pressures, closed-mindedness, and religion that has tainted their minds.

It would be all fine and dandy though if they didn't try to enforce their views on me. A good chunk of the world is like this.

I think that you just strive hard to reject your parents beliefs, which is okey so long as you love them, which I think you do.

Ya I think that religion can have that effect on some people, sorry that it effected your parents in a bad way.

I think that you're a smart enough person to live your own life without having someone shove their beliefs down your throat. Still, they're your parents and you gotta love them.

            • I don't try to reject their beliefs. I was raised as a full blown Pentecostal Christian and tried so hard to get closer to God. If he existed, he just didn't care.

For the longest time, my parents never even knew I was Atheist. I just hid it from them for good reason. I figured there was no way to properly argue with them, as they will cheat the argument and force me to go back to Church.

I'm just...diss-appointed in the majority of humanity. They only seem interested in what makes those 'happy feelings' come. They don't want knowledge, they want feeling.

Yes, it's is. You know, most people only use half of their brain power! I can't remember the exact percentage, but it's pretty low. The mind is capable of many great things, but we have to learn to harness those abilities!

I think this is one of those 'facts' that gets spoken so often that people think it's true, unfortunately it's a myth. We use all of our brain, just different parts of it are used at different times. Just like a computer, if you're playing a game the graphics card kicks in. Playing a music track the sound card ramps up a notch etc.

You can see this by looking at people who have suffered any type of brain damage. Most if not all will suffer some function impairment. (What's amazing is the way the brain is able to rewire itself in order to compensate for any brain damage and they can relearn things).

  • You sound simple minded. Everybody thinks they're smart and everyone else is an idiot. So we must all be some kind of "genius idiots". Your not as clever as you think as what you describe is what everybody thinks about others besides themselves.

    • When I refer to everybody, I'm referring to a lot of people around me. There's a long story to it, but for the most part my entire family and more have proven themselves to be idiots time and time again.

I had to shake the shackles of discrimination, closed-mindedness, and more off of me to become who I am.

I'm not saying you're dumb or anybody else is. I just believe people have a choice to be smart...and they choose not to by remaining closed-minded and worshipping fairies in the sky.

      • So this is more so against religious people? Who are you to say it's not rational to believe in their religion? (I'm not religious).
Nobody really knows, and until we do, we can't go around saying everyone is narrow minded for not believing in religion. A lot of religion does good for others.

Oh OP, please pity me for you are so enlightened as I worship this magical sky fairy.

You know I'm a big, ignorant dumbass, ItDuz. Tell him I'm sorry in smart people talk.

          • There are two types of people involving religious debates:

Type A - the people who worship and believe because it makes them feel good, etc.

Type B - the people who want the truth.

I'm Type B...and my whole family is Type A. They feel like such idiots to be around because I'm constantly attacked for my disbelief in their deity.

              That's an odd generalization.
I love the way religion makes me feel and I agree with people who say that religion gives you a sense of purpose to be a better person.

I also love the doctrines and the "truth" so to speak.

              Comment Hidden ( show )
          • It's not religious people I got a problem with. It's the ones around me (aka my family), who are trying to convert me back to Christianity.

I'm very irritated because of them; and I can tell they're all idiots. Religion suppresses the cognitive thinking abilities (alert senses seem to go off when their faith is challenged). There have been research studies on this.

Now I never said being religious makes you stupid; I apologize if that's what you made out, I was irritated at dealing with them.

            Comment Hidden ( show )
        • It isn't just religion. It's the people who will outright battle me based on faith alone in an ideal.

you are human so do u have burning hate for urself. hate is not the right word in my opinion. maybe dislike anyway even if you want people to be as u stated it wont happen we are all equal yet different if u dont embrace that u will endup so irritated by even little things. in sanity and desparation could result. u have a right to think but dont expect it out of others just be glad they actually did as u would like and if they dont tell them or understand coz u will also want them to understand ur point of view. LEARN MORE AND DONT HATE!!!

No, child, you got it all wrong. Those ignorant inferior beings are Homo Sapiens (wise men), while superior, intelligent beings are Homo Sapien Sapiens (wise wise men): so no, OP is not saying they hate themselves.
