Is it normal i'm disappointed whenever i see someone i admire smoke?

I personally believe that smoking is a character flaw. This probably comes from the combined effect of being pounded with the knowledge "smoking is bad" in school, and the fact that my grandmother was a heavy smoker.

So, whenever I see someone, or find out that someone that I admire smokes, I get disappointed. For example, I recently found out that my favorite manager at work smokes, and a few people I like here on is it normal admitted that they smoke.

When I find that out, it just... disappoints me. I think it's because it's because smoking is one of those habits that's just so easy to not get yourself into, it's so expensive, and it ultimately results in some sort of related smoking disease like lung cancer.

is it normal that I get disappointed when I learn that a person smokes?

Yeah, it's normal. I smoked for 5 years and now that I've quit, I look back and wonder why I thought it was so great. It was an endless cycle of craving-filling-craving-filling and it didn't make me any happier to perpetuate this cycle or thinking that it is making me happier.

I feel sorry for people who smoke. What I went through, even when I had the money to smoke whenever, was horrible. It was almost like a handicap, to be on an airplane and hoping that the next airport had a smoking lounge, to be standing outside in the severe cold because you can't have a puff indoors... a self-imposed handicap and I didn't truly realize it until I had quit.

I wish nobody would pick up the habit, I really do, but don't put people on such a pedestal from which they could easily fall from having weaknesses, which is characteristic of being human.

I mean, smoking is bad, I know a lot of smokers (myself included) who wish they never started. But god damn if cigarettes don't help wash down the taste of life when it gets bitter.

I feel EXACTLY this way.. and I hate it. But I just hate when people smoke. Your grandmother is my father, maybe he's not a heavy smoker but he does it quite a bit, inside of the house while we're not home and any damn time he pleases in the bathroom right next to my room even when we tell him not to. Plus all the stuff about it being bad. Everyone else says they got used to it but I've always hated it with a passion and I am severely disappointed when it's a guy I'm interested in because that's something I just cannot have. I see my mother unhappy with my father, drinking and smoking all the time and not caring what anyone tells him about it.. and I don't want to be unhappy like my mom ):

I missed a single letter at first and was very perplexed by why it disappointed you when people admire smoke, and how often this even happens.

Anyway, given your background, I don't think there's anything odd about your reaction.
