Is it normal i'm a tad irritated how loosely people use the term ocd?

Loosely people use the term OCD on this site. I have it so it kind of bothers me people are just throwing the term around, as it is a serious problem for me. Does anyone else feel this way?

and how ''ADD'' is used as an excuse for not having interest in boring things
but yeah it's kind of annoying when people say they have ''an ocd'' when it's actually just something weird they like to do. they just wana draw more attention i guess

Yeah. It's a real issue and people act like it isn't. They also use it as an excuse in a 'funny/cool' way. They don't even have OCD...

I've lost count of how many times people have used to word "schizophrenic" on this site to refer to multiple personalities, or "Dissociative Identity Disorder".

It has NEVER meant that, and I think that public misperception has been steadily clearing up over the years. Still, some don't get it. LEARN, YE TROGLODYTES.

Even musicians are guilty, though. Bach's fugue makes no mention of a dissociative fugue.

Eh...it doesn't bother me to hear people use it loosely. I've a had slight case since childhood but instead of being offended I just giggle at their ignorant diagnosis.

I have the same problem with people who think they have Asperger`s Syndrome as an excuse for their terrible social skills.

Yeah, I suggested something to my doctor and he accused me of having OCD. When I clearly have something else!

  • I think some people like to be in a 'group' or under a label of some sort. I do tend to label myself, and I should stop, but I just tend to do it. Maybe it makes us feel 'unique' or something. I know it's silly but I guess that's how some people work Lol.

It is annoying. Especially when people say, "OMG I AM SO OCD." Really? You're so obsessive compulsive disorder?" That makes no sense! Double checking to make sure you turned the stove off does not mean you have OCD.

I think its normal just not normal for you and yes it is used lightly, but that is okay. If only a couple people did then it would not be okay, its just an expression, just like saying "you dumbass" or " you're retarded" its not like anyone is really a dumb donkey or mentally retarded.

It bothers me, too. I don't think people realize how hard living with OCD can be, so they think anything strange or weird that they do can be classified as it.
