They are funny because they are taboo; they force a reaction out of you because you were not expecting it. I often laugh at racist and sexist jokes, but I don't normally enjoy them. I sometimes only laugh because I am secretly uncomfortable; a sort of awkward laughter.

You're completely normal :) in fact here's a joke for ya:

There was an Australian, an American and an Asian on a hot air balloon when all of a sudden it started to go down. Frantically, they all agreed that they would throw out what they already had too much of in their country. The Asian threw out chopsticks, the American threw out their junk food and the Australian threw out the Asian.

    And another:
A man was stopped in his car at a red light one day when he noticed that the car next to him was full of Aboriginals. All of a sudden, a huge truck crashed into the car and killed all the Aboriginal people. "Holy shit!" he thought, "that couldve been me." so he went out and got a truck drivers licence.

See, I found these jokes funny but I have absolutely nothing against people of other races.

    Everybody has racist tendencies.
Especially the people that insist otherwise.

A joke is a joke is a joke & they're usually directed towards a stereotype so if someone gets offended because you thought it was funny, ask them, "Are you your own person or are you that stereotype? If you're not a stereotype, then you weren't the butt of the joke. Now, mindya'business."

yeah, that's how i am about it. i don't like it when people are actually racist/sexist, but i can enjoy a joke of it.
its even better if the comedian can make jokes on just about every race, especially if they are one themselves.

the best comedians to me are the ones who can laugh at themselves

I don't know.... jokes are weird to me unless they are constructed of spontaneous notions. Canned jokes seem like the joke teller lacks sense of humor/imagination. If somebody is being funny and there is no malicious intent behind what they are saying, then go ahead and laugh your ass off. You know right from wrong.
