Is it normal i like feeling dissociated?

I see a lot of posts regarding dissociative symptoms but haven't seen this discussed.
To me the world has always seemed like a simulation. I often feel like I'm dreaming or in some type of matrix.
What's different about my derealization from what other people describe is it's not triggered by anxiety and is actually a relaxing experience. I have felt it less when I take antipsychotic medication which helps me think more clearly and gives me more emotion, but the dissociative symptoms I enjoy. I often miss the feeling of being naturally high without doing drugs. I enjoy other symptoms of my mental illness as well but I see other people complaining about them and do not understand why.

meds don't work well for dissociative disorders (speaking from experience). all the medications I've tried, made my DP and DR a lot worse so I stopped medications all together. but I don't have any other conditions other than being dissociative so that might be making a difference.

as for liking the feeling of dissociation goes, I understand that it might feel good for those who have a lot going on and don't experience dissociation very often. but if the dissociation is a constant state that follows you everywhere then it gets really paralyzing and depressing (specially when you can't connect with anything/anyone including yourself)

all of this is from personal experience being dissociative for the past 17 years

I like it when I'm high but not if I'm sober because then I feel like I'm losing my mind.

    • Yeah, I know a lot of people are against meds and I have stopped taking them several time thinking I was fine. I don't notice when I'm not on them but at the same time every time I quit taking them my life goes to shit. Unless you develop schizophrenia and function well enough to keep your life together without medication you have no place to criticize me for it.

        • I've tried that. I do take vitamins and exercise as well. I know that meds can have long term consequences and have stopped them before for that reason. I agree they are over prescribed but they do work for certain people including me. I am actually very strong willed but without my meds I probably would have ended up in prison by now. I have a hard time understanding other people as well but anyone who has not had severe mental illness does not understand what it's like including psychiatrists. I do seem to get more quality out of life on my meds than without them and have decided I would rather take the risk than live a life not being able to function. I am probably one of the few people who psychriactic medicine has significantly helped. To give a good example before I was medicated I did not graduate high school until I was 22 because I could not function because my cognative skills became so disorganized. Be careful of who you tell to quit taking meds.
