Is it normal i let her go?

I've had a relationship with a girl whose in a different place and we knew who we where, were lived, and knew how each other thought. We were really close until i had had to start working more and we couldn't talk for a few months. We both understood that once i started working more we wouldn't be able to talk as much but she decided to break up with me anyways. I really do care about her and told her that even if she hurts me i still would respect her decision. For a while she apologized but i told her she didn't need to because i understood. i told her i never would forget her but if she wanted to she could cut off all contact with me. i just want to know if its normal i just let her go BECAUSE i care?
