Is it normal i have never payed for music ?

I'm 19 I honestly have ever ever bought a cd or payed for songs online not even as little kid,
I have around 400 songs on my phone that I have slowly collected over the years , usually if I hear a song and I like it I just google it and download it from somewhere and correct the names song/album/ artist .
Am I cheap. ? Or just smart? Lol

I do the same thing. If a police or something got ahold of my iPod, I'd be so screwed.

400? that's like a small handful compared to what i've got. i have over 10,000 songs and honestly i think over half of it is all downloaded free off various sites.
don't feel cheap. i know i don't. music is expensive these days. new releases are like $24 at f.y.e

    irony.

stealing stuff you don't rally need... and then claiming "i can't afford it" as if it's a legit excuse.

sounds like some people here are volunteering to work for free since they don't feel that people deserve to be paid for their work.

Oh, there are a bunch of excuses like that. People try to justify why they do it all the time, but I bet they would be the first ones to cry if someone stiffed them for a nickel.

As long as you don't object if someone steals something of yours then it's ok.

Sadly ya normal and that's mostly the reason why converts and CDs are so expensive. They are in here in OZ anyway

If i download music without paying, I feel bad for the artist. So I only download music and pay for it when its my favorite band or whatever.

    Hiya,

If it was crap, you wouldn't want it in the first place.

Don't start. I used to be anti-downloading, but I think it depends entirely on what you like. It's easier for me to use a stereo than an iPod so I prefer CDs.

I thought that because I tend to like older bands, blues, etc. it'd all be cheap because nobody wanted it.

Wrong. One of my favourites has made a silly amount of albums and just ONE of theirs is eye-wateringly expensive -- unless you want it used, which I don't. Luckily it's stunning, but what if I’d got it “the normal way” only to find out I didn't like it??

I've now set myself the task of getting all their stuff by any means – because the more I hear it, it just keeps getting better.

At the end of the day you'll still have the same thing, no matter how much/little you pay for it.

Not normal, but everyone does it. Just be careful though. A friend of mine downloaded some stuff and got a warning letter in the mail from the copyright holders a few weeks later. He now downloads from sites outside the US.

Lol, I don't see anything wrong with it. Especially if you listen to popular music. Imagine how rich artist like Katy Perry, or Skrillex are. Who cares if you steal from them?! Now as for new artists, and not so popular ones that's a different story. I used to download illegal music all the time. Recently I started buying Itune cards. $1.99$ dollars per song, for the kind of music I like, that's rediculous!

Music is expensive as hell for some reason and near enough no money goes to the artist anyway when you buy from something like itunes. Artists make all of their money from tours, concerts etc anyway. You can more than pay back the five cents the artist would of got from you buying a dollar thirty song by spreading their name around.

Maybe you should ask the artist if they mind you stealing their work before you decide for them how they earn their money.

I don't decide how they earn their money. I just stated the truth, they make literally nothing from online sales, so near enough all of their money comes from concerts, shows, tours etc. Buying music online is really a waste of money. You pay ridiculous amounts of cash, the artist gets almost none, and the rest goes to whatever expenses the corperation your buying it off of has. There simply isn't much of a profit to be made with selling music online unless your a mega pop star or some crap.

yes now a days, it's normal and easy to download popular music. But if you're into the rare, classic stuff. You'll have to pay for it, if you can find it.

I got about 2500 songs on my phone and about 2000 downloaded but most of them legally with Audials One 8/9... just buy the programm for about 50$ and you don't have to care about illegal downloads anymore =P

I don't do it anymore I'll just buy the CD/song if I REALLY want it, especially if I want to support the band/singer.

i honestly can't afford it. I don't have a credit card or whatever iTunes uses and a CD it's like my food money for a week or more.

Not normal, but at least you didn't complain about it being too crappy to pay for, but good enough for free.
