  • Stay in school and when you graduate book a flight to America or Europe. From your description, China sounds like a very annoying place to live in.

I'd advise you to do some research about the current condition of the American government/economy before you make the final decision...

I am an american living in China, and guess what? I pretty much have to agree with you--China sucks. But the thing of it is, no place is inherently wonderful. And furthermore, everyone's general dissatisfaction and disrespect for their country makes it worse. You need to start with yourself. Be clean, polite, maintain self-esteem and respect for others. People will revere you as much as they do us "laowai". And lastly, I am always saddened by the amount of Chinese that say "my dream is to go abroad." You all say that, and not all of you can. But even as it is, the sheer enormity of the number of Chinese immigrating every day astounds me. The U.S. Asian populations is growing far too rapidly. All I am saying, is please don't put all your eggs in one basket. Don't just strive to go to a "better" place. Strive to make the place you are better. Best wishes.

I'm just returning to the US from living and working in China for quite some time. I so hated my experience there that if I had to choose between another job in China (I admit I was compensated well) and dying in the US due to homelessness and poverty, I'd choose the latter. I will NEVER return to China under any circumstances. The summers are brutally hot and humid. To do something as simple as catch a flight or train to another city you have to wade through crowds of THOUSANDS of humans just to get to your processing port. The manners on trains, planes... are abysmal--people sneeze ON you, never cover their mouths when they cough, spit on the floor INDOORS... No wonder everyone's always sick, hacking up illnesses into the air, getting YOU sick in turn. When you finally get to your destination and need to catch local public transportation, you ACTUALLY HAVE TO WAIT IN A QUEUE HUNDREDS OR THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE LONG for HOURS just to catch a cab or get to the train. And you're not done. No. Once you've waited HOURS in a cattle-like slaughterhouse queue, you get to the train platform and find it's so saturated with hundreds of people you have to wait and wait and wait while trains come and go until you can actually GET TO a train.

There are faaaaaaaaaaaaaar too many people in China. And let's not talk about trying to cross the street. The motorists don't care about hitting pedestrians IN THE CROSSWALKS! My first year in China I saw an accident EVERY SINGLE DAY between a public BUS and a moped or biker or pedestrian. It got so bad that I literally stopped paying attention. And these were happening right outside my door. Want to go to the store? Yeah, right. Millions of people. Want to take a peaceful walk? Think again. Millions of people. Going to Hangzhou's or another city's Buddhist temple to escape the pandamonium? Sorry, with 1.3 billion humans in one country, you can be sure millions of people will be wherever you try to go to escape the constant noise and smells and ...

Oh, the smells. God. Every city smells like an open sewer. And the water out of the tap--you can't drink it, it's so polluted. You're obliged to buy bottled water. But corruption is so rampant in China that there are DAILY SCANDALS about companies NOT doing what they say they are. So you don't know if your bottled water is in fact safe. Don't believe me? Google "China bottled water scandals." And while you're at it, Google the recent scandal involving milk with industrial paint added to it to make it appear more wholesome. The result? LOTS OF DEAD CHILDREN. The local government knew about it but did nothing about it because it was profitable. It was only when a very wealthy, powerful business interest from Australia got involved with Beijing that something was finally done about it.

And then there's working for Chinese companies. I get that different cultures have different ways of doing things, but first off, if you're not Chinese, you'll NEVER be a valued member of a Chinese company, despite all their smiling and pleasantries. And the Chinese employees, while they may be polite to you, will never really want to accept you. And these companies are very, very often dysfunctional--with back-stabbing, open duplicity, unsupportive bosses, and a corporate culture that supports doing ANYTHING, no matter how illegal or hurtful, so long as it's profitable.

And then there's the ubiquitous pollution--air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution--the country is one giant toxic waste dump. Breathing the very air in most Chinese cities is as grave a health risk as being a heavy smoker.

Oh, to crown the shytestorm: the Chinese government makes it very, very, very hard for you to get your money out of China. Besides the absurd 3+ hour bank runs (because, again, a million people are there when you go and you're in the queue-from-hell waiting to do ANYTHING), you have to fill out an epic number of forms while you're treated like a criminal for trying to get YOUR LEGALLY EARNED MONEY back home to your country. And when you finally leave China, good luck getting your money out of the bank back to your home country.

Sorry for the rant. It's no hyperbole, though. I'd rather commit suicide in the US due to unemployment than EVER go back to China. I hated every hour of my life in that country with a passion.

China needs more people like you, that wants to make the change if you like the good traditions that your country has, then travel and learn from the other countries so you can apply it to your country!

As a Chinese saying says" the one that is promoting corruption is the one taking it" and believe me, new rich do not least for long china just started growing.

There is still a long way, and Chinese have many values that the west should learn none is perfect and corruption and black money is everywhere, not only in China.

  • I have to say I kinda like Ape Escape, in all honesty you cant argue with the logic, the easy, politically correct answer is to say that America is a multicultural country, accepting all kinds, but that was the norm when the country was still developing, the country is not developing anymore. Its developed, we dont need anymore immigrants from other countries, we need those countries to follow our example and get their shit together.

But then again pretty soon none of this will matter anyway, towards the end of this century if not before, if warfare or disease doesnt rampage through human populace our own obsession with overpopulation will surely do us in. The competition already is ridiculous in major population centers, confirmed by the original story, I couldnt imagine what its like in China with over a billion people. Every century that has come has been more violent then the century that preceeded it. The 21st century wont be any different.

People have been cruising along now without any natural predators or a massive pandemic (black plague) for centuries, its not something that can continue. Content in our own superiority. We will soon reap what we sow along those ends.

I'd hate living anywhere. I just never seem to stumble into the right people. Everyone sucks! The only people i'd get along with are my own clones! Actually there would be some friction with them as well. Because i'd go for their organs. Expecially their pituitary gland! Fuck the world!

My friend went to Hong Kong for a few days on holiday, he pretty much hated it.
The people were rude telling him to "hurry up!" when he was getting his money out to buy something then "snatching the money" off his hands.
I don't get why the Chinese have to be so cold towards their kind and also other foreigners.

Because Hong Kong is a city which demands rush and speed. You can't judge the countryside by these people.

When I went to China for about 2 months I found the people very friendly and nice, in those 8 weeks not one person told me to "hurry up!" and not one person snatched money out of my hands.
I even had to use gestures and my little knowledge of Mandarin Chinese to buy train tickets or food, and people were glad to help, if someone was busy or was having a long hard day of work I could of course understand why he or she would get annoyed.
Maybe your friend actually was slow, and certain people didn't have the patience for that.
Doesn't mean every Chinese person is like that..
It's stupid to say "why the Chinese have to be so cold" when he experienced this with a handful of people, there's 1.3 billion people there you know.

I'm in China right now on an internship. I was so excited when I was leaving the US to come here. But now... I don't want to bash anyone or any country, so I'll keep my experiences to myself for now. But what really stood out to me from what you said, given I'm a US citizen now living/working in China is your claim that the unhealthy competition comes at least in part from the population density. The same damn thing is happening in the US, but we keep pumping out more and more people even though we don't have the resources to care for everybody--or even to allow healthy competition (school, jobs...).

    We humans refuse to learn.
