Is it normal i got intense headache from diving as a kid?

Came to think about this. I wonder if my classmates experienced it the same way. Remembering back at the swimming at school, we had a pool that was about 3.5 meter on the deep part if I remember right. We were frequently tasked to dive to the bottom and collect rings they threw out (among other things). It was really a struggle both due to intense pain and from needing to breathe too soon. And I failed it many times. But I also something I tried later as a challenge. I could not have gone down slower because I had to hurry to get down before I need to breathe again. Ive heard normally people should manage to dive much deeper than this.

  • You gotta fill your lungs with air, and when you can't hold your breath anymore start exhaling through your nose. You gotta use that breath of energy to swim down, pick up the ring, cell phone, spatula, or whatever or whomever is down at the bottom, kick up and off the bottom, and get back to the surface as fast as possible. It should be one of those things you just do without thinking

    • When I was tested in a lake these fish would swim up and nibble your fingers if you weren't careful

I'm really bad at holding my breath also. I would never dive as getting far underwater would give me anxiety similar to claustrophobia and I can imagine holding your breath could give headaches though not sure how common it would be for as short of a time as it generally takes to swim up from the bottom of a pool.
