Is it normal i get irritated with people

I get so annoyed with people when conversing with them, whenever they are talking i always respond to let them know i'm listening, such as nodding , looking at them ect..... but when i say something some people dont respond at all, and i dont know if they heard me, or dont understand or think i'm crazy......? I think its bad manners!
