Basically I can watch porn, or watch a pornographic scene in a film, and not get effected by it. At all. However, when I read a really good erotic story, it can turn me on quite a lot. Don't know why, because they are the same thing, just in different formats.
It's normal. I'm this way. I watch porn for the laugh or curiosity sometimes, but if I want to excite myself I'd rather read it.
This is exactly why Shades of Grey is such a phenonmenal success.
I find myself peeking at the bookmark where my spouse left off, if she reads more than 10 pages, it's gonna be a good night!

Men are often turned on by what they see, women by what they have to visualise (i.e. what they read). I'm one of those people who seem to get off on both. Give me something well-written, believable, and thoroughly naughty, and I'll redecorate the ceiling!
It's kind of fun to write that stuff too. Just to be clear, I don't post that stuff here but I have posted it in forums intended for that kind of material. I might actually start doing it more regularly. The idea of people getting off to something I wrote is strangely appealing.
And I have a killer turn of phrase when I put my mind to it.
It's normal because when you read you create your own atmosphere and scenes - you use your imagination.
The brain is the sexiest organ and I too have found some erotic books/stories to be hotter than watching porn.
Id say normal, Ive caught my husband reading this before and I know why lol but he also watches porn and shit too more so than reading
