Is it normal i gave my best friend a lousy birthday gift?

My friend's birthday passed recently, and I basically bought her a tub of her favourite flavour of ice-cream. I couldn't find an expensive, small tub version so I bought her a family sized, cheap tub.

It didn't take much effort, just went to the supermarket and brought it back in an icebox, then gave it to her the next day, and it melted pretty quick, after her first few spoons, so she eventually ended up eating the slushy mess so as not to hurt my feelings.

I feel guilty, but I handmade something for her christmas present and she didn't seem to appreciate/need it, so I gave up and decided to buy her something I knew for sure she would like.

Other people bought her "treasure boxes" of many things that had to be bought individually and I generally feel everyone else put more effort into her gift than I did D: is it normal to give my best friend such an easy, effortless, not to mention cheap gift?

I don't see a problem with it. I'm difficult as hell to buy presents for and if I were her I'd have stuck it in the freezer.

  • yeah of course it is. but this is just exactly why i don't like to give gifts because they'll just bitch the whole time after you give them a gift and it really shouldn't matter what it is they should appreciate what they get cheap or not cheap. i quit giving gifts because they don't appreciate what i give to them.

the person getting the gift should always accept it

I would love a tube of ice cream for a gift, but that's just me.

Some people are difficult to buy presents for. I'm generally bad at buying people things for birthdays or whatever, but I'm good at buying spontaneous gifts for friends.
