I do too! I have severe anxiety and panic attacks, which I take medication for. I have a very strict, " call first " rule with friends and family for this exact reason. I freak out if someone knocks on my door and I am not expecting company. Most of the time I will pretend like I am not even home and won't answer the door. I don't care if it's my best friend, they should have called first! Usually they will call while standing on my porch. If I feel like it I will answer my phone and then let them in. They get lip-thrashed for "popping in" and I get over it, but still my anxiety level rises and I have a panic attack. Night is the worst. When it is dark outside and I am not expecting anyone... OMG.. I totally loose it. This poor kid was selling newspaper subscriptions for his Boyscout Troop and I let him have it. I screamed through the door, "Who is it? Why are you knocking on my door at 8:45 at night? What do you want? I have a gun." The kid said, " my name is Chad I'm selling papers for boyscouts please don't shoot me!" I have a NO Solicitors sign on my door. The kid totally bailed. Next thing I know, his dad is at my door screaming at me, "Why are you threatening my son with a gun?" I opened the door and said, " first of all it's almost 9:00 at night. I am alone in this house and I clearly have a No Solicitors sign on my door. I'm sorry but I was scared and didn't know he was a kid, and I did not threaten him, I just said I had a gun. ( little did he know that my .38 was in my waist behind my back )" I asked him to leave and never return. People who have anxiety tend to over react like this, BTW! Lol. Yep you are normal to me hon! Welcome to the club!

I'm not afraid it's going to be someone that will hurt me. But it does freak me out, and I don't answer the door. I jump over the couch and hide behind it and crawl to a different room. My dog opens the curtain and barks and I'm afraid they will see that I'm home, so I hide quickly. I hate talking to people. But I'm not afraid they will hurt me.

I'm the same way. I don't want to answer the door. I'll hide and worry that they'll be able to hear that I'm home...doesn't help that my toddler starts making a bunch of noise but I'm afraid of the repercussions to opening said door.

  • I do this but I have Social Anxiety. If someone knocks on the door, I immediately hide in another room until I think they've gone away. I also rarely ever answer the phone if it rings, always have to check the number before calling the person back (if necessary).

To me, it sounds like you are suffering from some sort of anxiety, maybe going to the doctor would help.

don't worry my dog feels the same way but shows how he feels by barking and running around uncontrollably.
