Is it normal i found a flaw with villain/hero logic?

Villains rob a bank and steal money but often will steal gold. Actually they steal gold every time they make a situation when someone is robbing a bank. However gold is worthless if you plan on spending it. Unless you get it converted to money or put it into bonds. If you get it converted into bills(money) aernt they going to be on alert for whoever took the gold from the bank to begin with?

Yes and I wondered this too 7
I never thought of this 13
I can explain why and it will make sense 11
Yeah you are right this doesn't make much sense 3

    I trade gold for rope.

I use the rope to tie virgins to railroad tracks.

Then I laugh maniacally and twirl my moustache.

Gold is worthless, as are money and bonds. Things have value in society because we give them value. The same is true of gold and it actually has quite significant value. If you're anywhere in a city right now, you can probably find those cash for gold places somewhere fairly easily. It wouldn't be all that difficult to either bribe silence or simply break up the gold into many pieces and sell it off.

Cash would honestly be much more difficult as it is traceable by the serial codes, whereas gold has no ability to be distinguished.

On a side note, what villains are you talking about? Most that I know of seem to steal vast amounts of cash, not gold.

    • Yes that is very true but if you walk into a shop and say "I would like to buy this bread sir" and put a gold brick on the counter I dont think they will be able to help.

I think the shopkeeper would gladly give you the bread and begin jumping with excitement the moment you left the store.

        • So how is he going to give you change for the rest of the brick when the bread probobly costs 2$. Can you explain this? I think that would be difficult for someone running a shop. Unless maybe he emptied all the cash registers. A lot of places dont take anything over 20$ bills either.

I thought you meant the "villain" bought bread with a whole brick. Letting the shop keep the change. My mistake.

Anyway it really isnt difficult to melt gold to create tiny bricks. Making it much easier to sell.

Also, if the villain was an accomplished theif I'm sure he would have a fence or buyer lined up before the robbery took place.

They likely will not convert it. They will use it as trade for other goods.

I thought you were going to say something along the lines of... "villains might have been victims themselves...etc..."

They can track the money from whatever bank it is stolen from but they cant track the money given to them after they sell the gold.

Money IS gold. They are both synonymous. Gold is effeminately not worthless. It's not as traceable as paper bills. If you robbed a bank and held onto the gold for 5 or 10 years, it would be worth maybe twice as much by then, maybe more. Also, there are avenues by which people can exchange gold bullion for cash without it being traced by the authorities. The blackmarket for example. Gold is also much more valuable than cash because it keeps it's value. For example, you rob a bank of 10 million euros, the exchange rate worsens, and suddenly 10 million euros may only be worth 5 million. But rob a bank of 10 gold bars and 10 gold bars is worth 10 gold bars in any currency.
