Is it normal i find food competitions disgusting ?

Have any of you ever watched the world food contests ? Have you ever watched this is local restaurants in your town ? I know they are suppose to be fun ? I think they are disgusting though I mean I came from a Christian household and even the bible says its wrong ? Is it not gluttony to eat and eat for fun and money ? I mean isn’t this unhealthy as well but they have people from every country doing it . Also the person who always wins is some skinny guy . I still do not think this is healthy at all ? Also people had the fun ideas of promoting this in schools as a fun little game for the kids . Half the children are reluctant to even participate after a certain age . I do not know maybe I am just being a " Stick in the mud " but really is that even Sanitary ? Is it not grose eat till one of you vomits and the one who left vomiting last is the winner ?

    I agree it's gross. I remember when I was in Elementary School they had one of those in my school. You had to eat spaghetti from a DOG BOWL with YOUR FACE and whoever finished faster won. I found that completely repulsive and I have no clue why anyone would want to do anything like that.

      I know , It is disgusting the schools think oh its a cute little game for the children ! yet they usually pick the kids with great grades or perfect attendence and say guess what you have to do ? some the boys are like sure fun ! but most the girls and the more refined boys are very reluctant and its like why would you humiliatie them like this ? for doing something good ?

    the waste doesn't really bother me as much as knowing how much waste the restaurants across the country throw away and people aren't even eating it...but eating that much is nasty, especially once people start getting sick

      Auctully resturuants dont throw thier food away . Most of them dump it and than send it to the farms to feed the the pigs and cattle . so any lettuce , grass excestera can be fead to pigs cuase they can eat anything and not get sick even other pig .

        restaurants in the united states do throw lots of food away, at least in the south. some places out west that are more progressive or maybe in the desert and have to conserve resources might send it to farms, but i can't be certain.

        nice to know, it makes me feel a bit better...but the restaurant i work at it goes straight to the dump, maybe i'll tell them to send it to a farm

    It's disgusting and unhealthy. There was an eating contest in my hometown and they had to eat EVERYTHING. If someone had to puke, they were required to do it in a cup and drink it back up.

    It is pretty gross. I'm glad others brought up "the tsunami" (takeru kobayashi (?)). I used to think he was hot when he was buff, but now he's all skinny and androgynous(?) And I'm not too sure anymore.

    I do not know all do but most staryed to its cheaper for resturaunts if they do.becuase farmers give them free food .

    I have to say half of me agrees with you about the waste and gluttony of it all .. but the other half feels like a gauntlet is being thrown down. "You're betting the price that I can't eat a 72oz steak..? CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!"

      It auctully is a women who benches becuase she is bolemic did this . It turns out you can only strech your stomach so much so if you swallow to many iteams and do not chew enough your stomach can burst open and you will die . It happened on 1000 ways to die it is Dangerous and not healthy thats why they drink water to strech thier stomachs before they enter compitition .

    It's normal and it is wasteful.. I probably have the same beliefs as you, but I still find it interesting. I just hope some of them do some volunteering or donating and realize that it's wasteful.

    I couldn't care less if it's healthy though. I don't participate, but if the people who do want to kill themselves by eating, that's their choice. Haha.
