Is it normal i feel i look so old?

Many people say I look 20 but I'm 27. But even though people say I look younger and I get IDed everywhere even when I buy lottery tickets, I just see an older woman in the mirror. I don't mean old, old but I see a 40+ year old woman and I have told my boyfriend this but he doesn't believe me and just laughs it off thinking I'm joking. I'm absolutely convinced I look older than 27 and that I look middle-aged. I don't have any wrinkles or aging like features but my face just looks older than what people tell me.

I don't understand why. I walk around and every day people call me miss, girl or even kid and I think they're just being polite to flatter me.

I don't think I can post a photo here but even if I could, I doubt I would ask this is a site I use just for personal questions and to remain private.. I posted a photo on a guess your age site and people thought I was 38 but I don't know if that is unrealistic because I saw all the guesses and half said 20-30 and the other half said 30-60 years old.. so I suppose the average may be incorrect in that. But I just don't know.

I think it's common for some people to see something different when they look in the mirror.

I think it has something to do with how you FEEL. If you FEEL old, I'm sure you're going to SEE old when you look in the mirror.

Do you think your features are stern or angular? Do you not have as much babyfat as other 27-year-olds?

People probably tell you that you look 20 because, unlike a lot of 27-year-olds who might smoke or sunbathe, you might not have the beginnings of crows feet or nasolabial lines that one might expect a 27-year-old woman without makeup to have, but that doesn't mean that those are the only factors that contribute to a perception of a certain age. You might see certain other factors as suiting of an older person, and you're finding these in yourself.

Do you have any idea what makes you think you look old? Your hair? Your lips? Your jawline? Your eyes? Your neck?

    • I can't really put my finger on how I look older than my age.. I'm a healthy weight, with a normal face (not fat nor super skinny, just in the middle) and my features aren't angular, they're more rounded actually so I don't know how it could be that. I even get complimented on my skin as people ask me how I get it so clear/smooth but I just see it as middle-aged...

As for my eyes, they're quite large and almond shaped, my hair is thick and shiny/healthy, my lips are normal..my jawline normal..neck, normal.. I'm trying to think of something that I would say is abnormal and I can't. I know there has to be something, right?

Maybe I just feel old and so when I look at myself, I project that into the mirror? It's just so weird. I'm actually in shock when people call me young. I just assume they see me as middle-aged.

Actually, I just went to dinner with my friends younger sister who is only 18 and the waitress oddly asked if she was my older sister and yet, after hearing that, I still felt like she was pretending and that was a lie to make me feel better. Am I crazy?
