Is it normal i fear going to hell

My friend and i were having a conversation (she is a proper Christian like totally devoted)and she said that if you don't fully believe in god you will go to hell, so basicly she said i will go to hell, i'm really scared because she was saying what the bible says and making it sound all so real, i don't want to go to hell but i can believe in something if i'm still searching for a religion.

  • The existence of Hell, the idea that people go to heaven upon death, and the concept of the immortal soul are not Bible teachings, but are derived from pagan mythology, like most of what modern Christians believe.

What the Bible teaches is that those who die are merely dead (Ecclesiastes 9:5). Jesus likened death to sleep, in regards to Lazarus (John 11:11). When he resurrected Lazarus, the man spoke nothing of being tormented in Hell or rewarded in Heaven.

There are four words in the Bible that have been translated into "Hell". Those are:

"Sheol", which simply means the state of being dead.

"Gehenna", which was a burning trash pit outside of Jerusalem where DEAD criminals, animals, and debris were thrown (dead things do not feel pain).

"Hades", which is the closest Greek translation of "sheol".

"Tartarus", (not the same tartarus as in Greek mythology) which is a prisonlike condition that disobedient angels are subjected to.

NONE OF THESE TERMS CARRIES THE IDEA OF A LITERAL PLACE WHERE THE HUMAN SOUL IS ETERNALLY TORTURED.

As for the concept of the soul, the Hebrew word translate into "soul" is "ne'phesh". This word does not refer to some immortal, ethereal being that attaches itself to a physical form temporarily, but simply to a living thing. In fact, the first use of "ne'phesh" in the Bible refers to sea creatures (Genesis 1:20). A human being is a 100% physical creature.

You aren't going to hell. God will forgive you for your sins. If you don't know whether you believe in him or not, he'll forgive you.

keep searching. if you truly deep down in your heart want to be in God's love/ find His kingdom you can.

    "seek and ye shall find"

However, you can also deny that there is God, hell, and heaven as well.

It may be MUCH easier to do the later (deny that there is a God), but much more worth it to find God's kingdom.

"God's Kingdom is like a treasure hidden in a field."

    Pray for help.

Ok well it's not kind or understanding to straight out dismiss ones fears about a religion when they honestly believe it could happen. Nor is it kind to dismiss someone else's beliefs, we all have them, it's human nature. Now I know you're afraid, if hell is real than it's an extremely scary possibility. The basic construct of christianity is that if you believe in Jesus and ask for forgiveness/get baptized, you're most likely safe. But you have to beleive it's actually real and not just believe because you're afraid hell might be real. See the difference? Also, perhaps you should research Judaism's history and the history of hell itself, you may be surprised. For example, the word's that have been translated into hell in the old testament (not sure about the new one) meant several different things. One was a Greek word for place of death (I think that's the exact translation but you should look it up yourself). Another was a word for a place where trash, animal bodies, and the bodies of thieves and other various "bad people" were burned. A third, off the top of my head was a hebrew word "Sheol" meaning "the grave" or "death". Now this of course is from earlier translations before it got re-translated dozens of times. You can find websites about this. Christian based websites will show you exactly where in their bible it refers to hell. Non-christian and pagan websites will talk about the history of the translations that I don't think many Christians know themselves. As far as Judaism goes, that is the basis for Christianity and I think a lot of Christians forget that and look only at Jesus. But to Jews, the history of their people was very important and Jesus was a Jew and he was very observant beyond claiming he knew some knew ways and was here to steer man in a new direction. I would suggest learning more about Judaism. It is a widely held belief that Jews have today and that it is believe Jews of the past held that the Christian hell does not exist (this of course excludes jews for Jesus and if there is another sect I'm not thinking of, then I'm sorry). The Christian hell is a place for the soul to go for all eternity in pain and torment (scary). But Jews believe hell is more of a stop zone. That every "soul" goes back to God in the end and that "hell" is a place where the sins of our human life's decision get washed away. In effect, if we were too bad here on earth, then we go to this place to be bathed in fire and come out pure again. The worse you were, the longer you're there. It's not considered a punishment but a gift, something that sheds away all the bad. The most important thing, after all the research and learning, is to pray. There is some type of praying in every religious belief. Your heart will tell you what is right for you, no one else can. I know if you're young it can be hard and it's especially hard when you come across someone you are close to who is so negative but you can only believe what you believe. No one else can make you believe something. And Christianity is supposed to be a loving and kind belief system so don't let her negativity turn you off to it. But remember to keep learning. It's important to learn about what it is you say you believe. You can say it all you want but if someone asks you a question about your beliefs, you have to have an answer or look one up. What good is your religious belief system if non-believers know more about it than you do? Or if you don't practice what you preach? I hope this helped :) Good luck!!!

id say, think of it in terms of karma. just like if you are evil in this life, you are miserable. if u have a good heart, then u will be happy. I disagree with what christianity teaches about there being no reincarnation though. (try watching a few episodes of unsolved mysteries about reincarnation) also try watching the episode on youtube, unsolved mysteries life after life. thoseare two cases about near death experiences. religion can be biased, but these stories about peoples experiences are fascinating and ivthink, help u sort such things out in your head about what to believe.

They're is always stuff I do I think maybe enough to send me to hell, even though I am not evil.

    Hell
    hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Ok seriously though, last time i was scared of hell was like grade 6. I got over hell at the same time as my fear of the dark or monsters under the bed. Religion is completely which proof and untestable. I wouldn't believe in it if you paid me its just as ridiculas as heaven, or santa or the tooth fairy. Live your life without fear or the chruches will always control you.

I generally do the right thing and am kind to strangers, etc., but because I refuse to be bullied into someone else's ideology, I too apparently "deserve" to burn in an eternal pit of fire. I'm generally tolerant of people's religious views but this is nothing more than bullying and fearmongering.

There is a place in many people's lives for religion, but this is not the place of it and it does a disservice to religion itself and the many people who have one.

    In short, don't worry.

    Not committing sins*

    My advise:
All religions touch on the fundamentals of being good and committing any "sins" which in most cases are either something bad that effects you or people around u. So by simply following the basics you have followed the most important message of religion. Regardless of the preacher the message is the same!

So do what you think is right! That's is it!
And tell your friend to not enforce her opinions on you.

  • look. it was definitely wrong for your friend to put you down like that but it doesnt just take believing in God. the devil believes God exists. if you have further questions, ask your friend and make sure she answers in a truthful and loving way.

I used to be terrified that I was going to Hell, especially when I found out that I was bisexual. My best advise for you is to just live your life. Religion is really just someone's opinion (and it was wrong of her to push it on you like that). Believe in whatever you want and don't worry about what other people think.
