Is it normal i fail at seeing myself objectively?

When I help friends or family members with their problems it seems so easy to help them find a solution. When I am trying to find solutions for my own troubles I feel blind. Is it normal that I am so inadequate? How can I overcome this?

Imagine that someone else is having that problems, what advice would you give them?

I think you need some more distance to your problems. Try doing and thinking about something else for a while and come back later.

    Helps me...

Here is something someone once told me when I was having the same trouble. "It is impossible to solve something from the inside looking in". So you can not possibly solve your own problems since you are currently in the situation. However someone from the outside should be able to since they are not in your shoes. Have you ever seen this scenario on movies where someone tells someone the solution to a problem they are having themselves to someone else. After this they realize how they must fix the problem they are having.

Naturally your own problems always seem more important than those of other people because you are emotionally invested in them. If they were an easy-fix to you they wouldn't be problems in the first place now would they?

  • Perhaps it's because your problems are more titanic than theirs are, and not because you fail to see yourself objectively?
